Participate in the provision of the radiography serviceProvide radiography for all in patients, out patients, General Practitioner and Accident and Emergency patients including mobile and theatre. Continue a personal development plan with guidance from the appraisal system.Teaching and TrainingExpected to participate in the training program in place for radiography students and on occasions other students, from school leavers to pre‑registration doctors.Public RelationsRemain professional at all times, liaise with other clinical teams and maintain good public relations on a one‑to‑one basis with the general public and other interest groups.Main duties of the jobTo undertake all basic radiographic procedures unsupervised, adaptation of technique where appropriate.Ensure high professional and technical standards are maintained at all times, advising more junior radiographers as may be required.Ensure requirements of radiation administration and protection are observed as identified in the dept local rules, procedure protocols and guidelines and offer advice to other disciplines on the correct use of ionising radiation.Take responsibility for the patient whilst under your care, maintaining dignity, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.Accept referrals from other disciplines, adhering to Ionising Regulations (Medical Exposures) Regulation, IRMER on justification of procedures and advise other disciplines on the safe use of ionising radiation.Manipulate complex, expensive instruments ensuring safe use of equipment.Be able to access patient records, history, enter patients details and retrieve images on the trusts Computerised Radiography / Patient Archiving System.Effective communication with all grades of staff, carers and patients, including communication skills in a leadership context. Some patients may be elderly, confused, intoxicated, aggressive, have special needs or paediatrics and adaptation of skills is needed to allow an explanation of the procedure. What will you #BeKnown for?Job responsibilitiesSee job description attached to view full job responsibilities.Able to apply a variety of general radiographic skills in unusual general and trauma situations.Record radiation doses on the trust computer system for patients x-ray records. Record pregnancy status where appropriate.To participate in the out of hours system as required, working unsocial hours, independently in unpredictable situations with workload, emergencies and sometimes, aggressive, intoxicated patients.Ability to prioritise workload according to clinical urgency/need and hospital targets when working single handed.Be proficient in Intravenous Cannulation. And administration of contrast, being aware of reactions and the appropriate action / treatment needed. Training will be provided for this.Understand how the undergraduate radiography course runs to enable teaching and supervision of students on a daily basis, training can be provided if necessary.Be proficient in controlling violence and aggression and talk down skills for when working single-handed in department when on call, training can be provided if needed.Participate in the A and E abnormal pattern recognition system.Arrange in-patient transport, liaising with ward and departmental staff.Manage service engineer handover forms.With nearly 5,000 staff, from all over the world, we strive to make our organisation a great place to work.
