Based at East Ham Maintenance Depot, you’ll support the newly commissioned Class 720/6 Aventra and Class 357 Electrostar fleets, playing a pivotal role in ensuring their safety, reliability, and performance. This is your opportunity to make a real impact on the passenger experience and the efficiency of modern rail systems. In this role, you’ll oversee the design, development, and maintenance of rolling stock to ensure compliance with safety, performance, and regulatory standards. You’ll mitigate safety and reliability risks, conduct root cause analysis, and define long-term solutions. Collaboration is key you’ll work closely with designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and operators to manage projects from concept through to completion. You’ll also identify and implement safe, cost-effective containment measures and countermeasures for product safety issues, ensuring accurate reporting and timely resolution. We’ll look to you for: Using your experience and knowledge of rail vehicles and engineering principles to manage Product Safety, Reliability, Compliance, Business objectives. Strong reliability management skills to support the Project Reliability Board in implementing containment and countermeasures for key reliability failure modes. Conducting incident root cause analysis and performance attribution in accordance with Railway Group Standards (e.g., The Rule Book). Identifying and implementing safe, cost-effective containment and countermeasures for product safety issues, tracking them from accurate reporting through to timely resolution. Developing and delivering engineering changes to improve fleet and system reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and deliver customer variation solutions (including change management, planning, and opportunity management). Supporting the depot in resolving Engineering issues and making fitness-to-run decisions. Planning and ensuring delivery readiness (including Bills of Materials, work instructions, and configuration) for scheduled maintenance activities as defined by the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule. Leading improvement projects to reduce train maintenance and operational costs, while ensuring the specified fleet maintenance regime is certified, adhered to, and compliant with all relevant legislation. Associated limitations must be effectively managed through controls such as concessions. Implementing customer variation orders, improving train presentation and customer ambience, and identifying and managing risks and opportunities to enhance safety, reliability, and profitability. Supporting day-to-day depot operations teams in resolving fleet issues. Please note: The successful candidate will occasionally be required to work at height and in enclosed spaces. Must have experience in rolling stock and have a rail background. Experience in organisation and project planning/management skills, governance, and execution. Understanding of key engineering processes (ex: risk assessments, FMECA…) and standards. Problem‑solving abilities and practical experience of root cause analysis techniques. Computer literate (MS Windows + Office, Microsoft Projects, Maximo, SAP).
