Position Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Research Technician to join our Assay Development Team. The role will take ownership of operating and maintaining flow cytometry and cell sorting equipment, along with conducting sample preparation and histological techniques. This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone with strong expertise in these areas to contribute to groundbreaking therapeutic advancements in the field of somatic genomics. The role is based in the vicinity of Cambridge UK and will be primarily on site.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain multispectral flow cytometry and cell sorting equipment, ensuring optimal performance for research activities.
  • Conduct cell sorting to isolate specific cell populations, with high purity and viability.
  • Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of flow cytometry equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.
  • Provide technical support and training to other team members on the operation of flow cytometry and cell sorting equipment.
  • Assist in sample preparation of human tissues and cells.
  • Perform histological techniques, including tissue sectioning, microscopy and high throughput imaging, to support project needs.
  • Maintain the day-to-day laboratory environment, including handling the receipt of goods, storage of temperature-sensitive items and preparation of laboratory reagent stocks.
  • Document experimental procedures and results, maintaining accurate records of all data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support assay development and the execution of disease-focused research projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and procedures, and the smooth running of the laboratory.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience of flow cytometry and cell sorting, including multispectral, is essential.
  • Experience working with human tissues and cells, with knowledge and understanding of the Human Tissue Act.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working with digital productivity tools such as Notion, Trello or Jira.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in histological techniques, including tissue sectioning, imaging, and microscopy.
  • Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical industry setting.
  • Experience running a flow cytometry and cell sorting facility.
