Main purpose of the role A direct report to the UK Head of SHEQ with key responsibility to advise in all aspects of HSE with a primary focus on waste and environmental management. What you will be doing: Provide expert advice and support to site teams on environmental compliance, waste management, and health & safety matters, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site environmental programs, including waste minimisation & pollution prevention. Ensure ongoing compliance with environmental permit conditions, including monitoring and reporting to regulatory bodies as required. Conduct environmental and waste audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvements. Maintain and update the site’s environmental aspects and impacts register, ensuring it reflects current operations and supports ISO 14001 certification. Collaborate with operational teams to embed environmental and safety considerations into daily activities. Support incident investigations related to environmental and waste issues, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions. Liaise with external waste contractors to ensure compliant and cost-effective waste disposal solutions. Monitor and report HSE management information. Your key relationships will be: You will liaise with regulators on waste management aspects where required (APHA, EA, HSE). You will advise and liaise with business functions to ensure legislative or compliance requirements are met. You will work with Procurement and vendors/suppliers to ensure waste contracts are cost effective. Skills and behaviours you will need to be successful: Environmental Permits ISO 14001 COMAH legislation IT Literate Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to engage at all levels and influence best practice in waste disposal Attention to detail Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Qualifications and experience required: Educated to Degree level or equivalent subject Diploma level (highly desirable) Recognised waste management certificate (WAMITAB or CIWM) Experience in a waste management or health and safety role Experience in dealing with recognised HS&E audit systems e.g. HSG65 or ISO45001 and ISO 14001. Experience in working with environmental permits and preferably would have worked on COMAH sites Experience in dealing with animal by-product regulations (desirable) What we offer: 33 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays.
