OverviewBehaviour & Pastoral Mentor Contract: 35 hours per week, (Term time only plus 5 days training days)Are you passionate about supporting the wellbeing of children and young people? Maplewell Hall School (Loughborough, LE12) is seeking a dedicated Behaviour & Pastoral Mentor to join our positive, supportive, and forward-thinking team. You’ll play a vital role in supporting our students (ages 11–19), many of whom have complex needs including autism spectrum condition, communication and interaction, and cognition and learning difficulties.Main PurposeTo work directly with pupils, staff and families to support behaviour, attendance and wellbeing. The mentor will:Conduct reflection sessions with pupils following incidents.Support pupils to make positive choices and overcome barriers to learning.Contact parents/carers promptly to discuss behaviour, attendance or pastoral concerns.Track, monitor and report on pupil behaviour and attendance.Provide pastoral support that promotes inclusion, wellbeing and academic engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport reflection and restorative conversations with pupils following incidents.Support pupils in developing strategies to improve behaviour, attendance and engagement.Assist in reintegrating pupils after suspensions or extended absence.Support and mentor pupils identified as at risk of disengagement, ensuring regular check-ins.Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school’s values and policies.Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher, commensurate with the level of the roleWorking with StaffSupport staff by providing feedback and strategies relating to pupils’ behaviour and attendance.Share relevant information with staff so that consistent approaches can be applied in the classroom.Work with the teachers and pastoral team to support pupils with additional needs.Working with Parents/Carers and External AgenciesAct as a key point of contact for parents/carers in relation to pastoral and behavioural issues, involving relevant staff members as necessary.Communicate with parents/carers following behavioural incidents to discuss the effectiveness of the support in place for their child.Maintain regular contact with parents/carers to discuss their child’s progress, behaviour and attendance.Build positive relations with parents/carers to encourage family involvement in their child’s progress.Communicate with parents/carers about specific support in place for their child.Assist parents/carers with any information they need to support their child.Liaise with external support agencies and professionals as required, to cater for pupils’ individual needs.Build and refresh knowledge on the range of external support available that could support pupils’ individual needs.Behaviour and Attendance MonitoringRecord and monitor behaviour incidents in line with school procedures.Track patterns of behaviour and attendance, highlighting concerns to senior staff.Support the Attendance Officer with follow-up for persistent absence or lateness.Contribute to reports on pupil behaviour, attendance and pastoral support.AdministrationMaintain accurate records of interventions and relevant meetings.Facilitate the transfer of relevant pupil information inside and outside the school.Ensure that pupil medical information is updated and that staff are aware of the individual medical needs of pupils.Complete relevant paperwork required by external agencies.SafeguardingWork in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (Keeping Children Safe in Education).Share safeguarding concerns immediately with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).Promote the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils at Maplewell Hall School.What we offerA highly subscribed SEN school with a strong community spirit.Positive learning culture and encouragement for new ideas.Well-being and workload actively managed.A warm, welcoming workplace where staff and student wellbeing is a priority.Opportunities for further training and professional development.Closing date: 9am Thursday 18th DecemberInterviews to be held w/c 5th JanuaryStart date : ASAPUnfortunately due to our strict recruitment proceedures CV's will not be consideredSafeguarding StatementMaplewell Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
