General Consultant – Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Job Overview The post holder will be based with the CMHT and work with the integrated/single line team manager to ensure clinical leadership of the multi‑disciplinary team. They will assist with clinical supervision of the team, ensuring robust management plans are in place for clinically complex patients as part of a meeting structure. They will aid training of team members in clinical matters and work collaboratively with the Acute Care Services and Primary Mental Health Services. Responsibilities include compliance with mental health legislation, development of care plans, evidence‑based treatment guidance, and administrative duties. Responsibilities Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff and team members. Manage, appraise and give professional supervision in line with board policies. Record and submit clinical activity accurately and promptly. Participate in annual appraisal and CPD programmes. Maintain professional registration and comply with mental health legislation. Work with local managers to ensure efficient service delivery and contribute to management. Assist in training and development of clinical staff. Provide consultations and supervision for Primary Mental Health Services. Coordinate longer‑term planning for section 117 aftercare arrangements and reports for appeals. Qualifications MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Desirable Qualifications Higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych or equivalent approved by Royal College of Psychiatrists. Welsh AC Approval. Eligibility Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT. Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice. Clinical Skills Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry. Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team and community psychiatric practice.
