Consultant in Anaesthetics – Candino CA We are inviting applications for full‑time consultant posts in anaesthetics at Colchester Hospital. Applicants with a special interest in orthopaedic, vascular and bariatric anaesthesia are particularly sought but those with other specialist interests will also be considered. Job Summary Apply to join our team at Colchester Hospital. The role supports the expansion of elective orthopaedic surgery in the Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC). The post includes fixed or flexible operating theatre sessions and participation in the on‑call rota, covering both routine and surgical emergencies. Responsibilities Support expansion of elective orthopaedic surgery at Colchester site. Participate in fixed or flexible operating theatre sessions. Participate in out‑of‑hours on‑call rota and general obstetric on‑call rota, with a frequency of 1:16. Cover specified on‑call patterns, including resident and non‑resident shifts and weekend coverage. Collaborate on cross‑site work at Ipswich, depending on applicant interests. Remain on the Specialist Register in Anaesthesia and have completed an anaesthesia CCT or equivalent training path. Qualifications Must be on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia or be eligible for entry within 6 months of interview. FRCA or equivalent. Completion of an anaesthesia CCT training programme or 7‑year post‑graduate training in anaesthetics. Experience working within the NHS. Higher training in obstetric anaesthesia. Understanding of NHS management structure. Experience teaching junior trainees to the level required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Team worker with good interpersonal and communication skills. Educational / clinical supervisor (training provided if needed). Desirable ATLS, APLS, ALS qualifications. Periods of training in related specialties (e.g., Medicine, A&E). Management training or qualification. Higher degree (MD, PhD). Publications in refereed journals.
