Overview Teaching Assistant, level 2. One to one pupil support. Band F, Scale 7-10. £21,907 - £23,350 pa (pro rata for part time hours). Term time only (39 weeks). Fixed term contract – 12 months. Working under the overall supervision of the Class Teacher and HLTA, you will primarily provide one to one support for a pupil who has SEMH needs, supporting them in their individual learning plan and encouraging them to gain confidence in their independence. With experience of working with children who have complex learning and SEMH needs, you will address individual learning and language needs, develop skills to promote independence and the development of self esteem, and encourage individual pupils to interact and engage in activities. As an advocate for your pupils, you will share their achievements with the school community and will help to communicate their needs to staff and pupils. In addition to providing one to one support, you will also be required to assist with and support the teaching, learning and general care of pupils in our school community. Confident in working with individual pupils or groups, you will work with and supervise them under the instruction of teaching staff, adapting your approach to meet their needs. As part of a supportive and enthusiastic team, you will be a positive role model for our pupils and will ensure the safety and welfare of pupils at all times, contributing to the school’s statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Responsibilities Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with SEMH needs, supporting their learning plan and developing independence and self-esteem. Assist with teaching, learning and general care of pupils under the instruction of teaching staff. Work with individual pupils or groups, adapting approach to meet needs and supervise pupils. Act as a positive role model and contribute to safeguarding and welfare of pupils. Qualifications and experience Experience of working with SEND children and pupils who may have challenging behaviours; comfortable delivering learning through play (ideally in an early years or KS1 setting). Experience providing personal care to pupils and able to create and deliver a personal care plan. Ideally hold an NVQ or equivalent qualification in Teaching Assistance, with training in special educational needs and SEMH strategies. Understanding and working knowledge of the National Curriculum and other learning programmes; excellent IT, literacy and numeracy skills. About Middlemarch School Middlemarch School is an inclusive Junior school for pupils in years 3 - 6 with two classes per year group. We welcome children from diverse backgrounds and pride ourselves on how well new children integrate within our friendly school. We have an enhanced special provision for children with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) whose primary need is communication and interaction. We are located close to Nuneaton town centre with good transport links to surrounding towns and cities. Contract and terms This is a fixed term contract for one year; however, the contract may be subject to early termination in line with terms and conditions of appointment should the child you are supporting no longer require that support.
