Divisional Finance Manager Job SummaryWe are looking for a highly motivated, CCAB/CIMA‑qualified accountant to take on a fixed‑term (12 months) role within the NHS finance team. The successful candidate will manage a small team, deliver high quality financial management advice, and support budget holders across the division. The position is designed for a professional seeking a secondment or a short‑term career opportunity at an NHS level. Responsibilities Support the Assistant Director of Finance and Head of Financial Management with effective monitoring and reporting services. Act as the lead accountant and primary contact for core clinical and non‑clinical divisions, ensuring financial balance and early identification of risks. Provide specialist strategic, financial and business input for service development and major change programmes. Coordinate the production of monthly financial management information and produce reports for internal and external committees. Lead the budget setting process, maintain financial systems, and contribute to the trust’s annual plan. Interpret financial information, communicate variances, and advise senior managers on action plans to maximise resources. Promote financial control and stewardship across the division, supporting colleagues with budget management. Identify and evaluate Cost Improvement Programme targets and act as the nominated finance representative. Accurately forecast the year‑end financial position and present this to the board. Act corporately and provide a trusted financial partner within the division. Develop relationships with board members, senior managers and clinicians, presenting financial information clearly. Link with Income, Costing and Contracting teams to ensure accurate profitability reporting. Provide financial training to managers and other budget holders. Lead and support corporate financial projects and work with finance teams to uphold accounting standards. Serve as an authorised signatory for cheques and bank transfers within standing financial instructions. Exercise independent judgement, prioritise work, and manage sub‑teams where required (note: no direct supervision). Contribute to policies, procedures and protocols for financial information delivery. Maintain personal development and competency through mandatory CPD. Demonstrate the Trust’s values and behaviours in all engagements. Person Specification – Qualifications CCAB/CIMA qualified accountant. Ongoing professional development. Degree (desirable). Experience Senior managerial experience in a complex finance department. Experience in multi‑agency environments. Significant experience of management accounting. Experience of managing, motivating and developing staff. Proficient with computerised financial systems. Experience with NHS finance and the NHS financial regime (desirable). Experience in statutory annual accounts preparation (desirable). Experience in charity or third‑sector accounting (desirable). Experience in research grant and contract accounting (desirable). Skills & Knowledge Excellent analytical and reasoning skills. Ability to present complex financial information to non‑financial audiences. Strong planning, monitoring and influencing abilities. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with spreadsheets and database packages. Robust understanding of NHS financial regimes, including Payment by Results.
