This is a client-side leadership role within HS2's Chief Engineers Group, reporting to the Head of Telecoms. The Lead EMS Engineer will be the Technical Authority and Standard Owner for HS2's Engineering Management System (EMS), which will provide supervisory control, monitoring, and integration of railway assets and systems across over 230 km of new high-speed infrastructure. The focus of the role is to provide progressive technical assurance through the project lifecycle, developing new standards where necessary, working collaboratively with Siemens to resolve complex integration challenges, and providing subject matter expertise (SCADA/Control) within HS2. You will manage a small team of EMS / SCADA Engineers and provide technical assurance and oversight of the £100 million EMS contract (recently awarded to Siemens) currently in early-stage design with the project due to complete in 2034. Key Responsibilities Technical Authority and Standard Owner for EMS / SCADA / PLC systems. Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of EMS technical standards, specifications, and requirements. Provide technical assurance that contractor designs and solutions meet HS2's engineering standards, through the project lifecycle. Lead engagement and coordination with internal and external stakeholders across multiple disciplines and contracts. Support system integration with other HS2 infrastructure contracts (Stations, Main Works Civils, Rail Systems). Provide subject matter expertise and advice on SCADA, PLC, and EMS technologies and applications. Manage a small team of EMS / SCADA Engineers, supporting their development and performance. Oversee risk management, proof-of-concept development, and technical evaluation of tenders and solutions. Promote best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement across HS2's technical community. About the Engineering Management System (EMS) The £100 million EMS Contract covers the design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of an integrated software solution that enables HS2's Control Room to remotely monitor and control railway infrastructure assets and systems (e.g. tunnel ventilation, lighting, and power). The EMS will integrate multiple SCADA systems and manage over 150,000 data points across 230km of new railway, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations of the high-speed railway. Required Criteria We're seeking qualified Lead SCADA / Control Systems Engineer (Electrical, Telecoms, or related) with experience leading EMS / SCADA / Control systems through the entire project lifecycle, including testing & Commissioning — ideally on major infrastructure projects such as rail, utilities, airports, oil & gas, nuclear etc. Open to people with experience working for client, contractor, integrator or consultant. Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Telecommunications, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline & ideally chartered. Significant experience in SCADA / systems design, integration, and delivery. Understanding of EMS / SCADA system integration, commissioning, and assurance processes. Proven background on major infrastructure projects – rail (HS2, Crossrail, Network Rail), Power, Nuclear, Oil & GAS, utilities etc. Strong stakeholder management and leadership capabilities. Experience managing engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers. Knowledge of relevant British, European, and International Standards for control systems. Experience applying systems engineering and information management principles. Commercial awareness, including cost, programme, and quality management. #J-18808-Ljbffr
