University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist Closing date is 04 December 2025 This post is a full-time position based in the inpatient trauma and orthopaedic (T&O) team at Solihull Hospital. The successful candidate will have exposure to a caseload including primary THR and TKR surgeries, complex arthroplasty revisions, day surgery procedures such as ACL reconstructions, acute trauma fractures including neck of femur and general medicine. It is important to note that this role does involve respiratory competencies as there is an expectation to contribute to the respiratory on-call service, treat ward-based chest patients, and post op T&O patients. We welcome applications from experienced Band 5 physiotherapists who want to develop into a more senior role. We also welcome applications from existing Band 6 physiotherapists wanting to build on their T&O skills. There is also an option for a progression Band 5 to 6 post with Band 6 competencies to be completed within 6 months of commencing the role. The interviews will be held face to face. Main duties of the job Provide therapeutic assessment, management and treatment of T&O/Older People within the acute hospital setting. Highly developed physical skills including dexterity, co‑ordination & sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information An ability to prioritise and organise own workload. An ability to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate course of action. An ability to work as part of an inter‑disciplinary team IT skills – computer literate in email, Word & PowerPoint Demonstrate enthusiasm for the specialist area. Demonstrate a professional attitude. An ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis. An ability to frequently concentrate on patient assessments and treatments. An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations. Able to contribute to weekend and evening service and respiratory on‑call. Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within the clinical areas. Ability to prioritise and organise own workload. Contribute to extended hours service/ 7 day working/ 12‑hour shift pattern depending on needs of service. Ability to travel across all UHB Sites and to external sites if required. Current registration with Health Professions Council. Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above. Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality. Evidence of leadership training. Attendance at Clinical Educators Course. Experience Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality. Significant experience of working in a health care environment / acute hospital setting, including acute hospital experience in T&O. Experience of working with patients with a range of complex needs including respiratory, neurology, and older people's medicine/frailty. Experience of treating acute chest patients +/- respiratory on‑call experience. Evidence of Team /service development. Supervision of students, assistants, therapy Support Workers. A specialist knowledge across a range of physiotherapy practices, routine and non‑routine, requiring expertise within the field of physiotherapy. Understanding of current legislation and application to Physiotherapy. Additional Criteria Demonstrate enthusiasm for the specialist area. Demonstrate a professional attitude.
