Job summary A exciting Band 7 ward nurse manager opportunity for an experienced registered nurse has arisen. The post is based on the Broadgreen Hospital site. Ward 7 is a 23‑bedded reablement ward as part of the reablement hub. The reablement hub provides rehabilitation and safe discharge planning alongside medical care, preventing deconditioning and promoting independence to patients. We are seeking someone who is experienced in a senior Leadership and Management role. You will be expected to meet the trust core standards to ensure safe care for our service users and their families. We will be responsible for managing members of staff and have a wide knowledge of both internal and external assessment criteria. Main duties of the job The post holder will have management responsibility for the ward/department over the 24hr period, ensuring a high standard of nursing care. Exercise strong and effective leadership acting as an exemplary role model for the ward/department team. Maintain adequate staff cover and skill mix on the ward through effective use of staffing rotas. Ensure staff compliance with mandatory training and maintain current records. Ensure effective communication with patients and their carers. Liaise with nursing, medical and allied health professional colleagues. Lead ward team meetings to ensure appropriate information is communicated to all team members. Ensure that the ward participates in maintaining standards relating to clinical governance. Respond to patient complaints and concerns within appropriate timeframes, ensuring outcomes and action plans are implemented and monitored. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures. Contribute to planning, monitoring and control of resources. Support the implementation of the Trust’s Strategy for Nursing at ward/department level. Job details Band: 7 Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 a year per annum Contract: Permanent Working pattern: Full-time Reference number: 287-BMED-47-25 Job location: Broadgreen, Thomas Drive, Liverpool, L14 3LB Clinical responsibilities Co‑ordination of the ward on a day‑to‑day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams or individuals. Provide specialist knowledge to all nursing staff on the ward. Promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care, ensuring the ward environment responds to current issues. Review and update existing procedures and protocols related to patient care. Develop methods to identify, maintain and improve the quality of patient care through best practice and clinical benchmarking. Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and clients. Explore expanded practice to optimise patient care within a specialist area, in accordance with Trust policies. Management and leadership responsibilities Exercise strong and effective leadership as an exemplary role model for the ward/department team. Maintain adequate staff cover and skill mix on the ward through effective use of staffing rotas. Ensure staff compliance with mandatory training and maintain current records. Effective communication with patients, carers, relatives, community nursing staff, other hospitals and local agencies. Lead ward team meetings to communicate appropriate information to all team members. Ensure the ward participates in maintaining standards relating to clinical governance. Implement risk management policies, develop and monitor action plans to address identified risks. Respond to patient complaints appropriately, ensuring outcomes and action plans are implemented. Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures. Implement the Trust grievance/disciplinary policy to identify performance issues early. Monitor and manage staff sickness/absence following Trust guidelines. Participate in recruitment and selection of staff within the nursing team, ensuring appropriate policies are adhered to. Support the implementation of the Trust’s Human Resources Strategy, including Improving Working Lives and Investors in People. Monitor staff performance, identify learning needs through personal development plans, appraisal systems and supervised practice. Contribute to planning, monitoring and control of resources. Support the implementation of the Trust’s strategy for nursing at ward/department level. Participate in Senior Nurse Directorate cover as necessary. Education responsibilities Identify staff training and development needs via personal development plans, ensuring it informs the Trust’s annual Training Needs Analysis. Ensure appropriate allocation of study time for professional development and staff compliance with Trust study leave policy. Disseminate information from individuals undertaking professional development to the ward team, patients and carers. Collaborate with clinical practice facilitators and higher education institutions to develop and promote an effective and responsive clinical learning environment. Encourage and initiate nursing audit and research, assisting with the implementation of findings where appropriate. Develop competency‑based training packages for use within the ward/department, including preceptorship and pre/post‑registration nurses. Act always in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and Guidance documents and maintain active status on the NMC Register. Take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge. Identify objectives within a Personal Development Plan that support the delivery of high standards of clinical care. Person specification – qualifications Registered Nurse, current NMC registration. Teaching and assessing qualification. Post‑registration qualification in specialty. Desirable qualifications 1st level degree or studying towards one. Experience – essential Demonstrable experience at Band 6 level. Evidence of effective ward management and leadership skills. Evidence of staff development, including pre and post‑registration students. Evidence of application of current nursing issues and developments. Evidence of managing change. Evidence of developing standards of nursing care through clinical benchmarking. Knowledge – essential Understanding and application of clinical governance. Skills – essential Excellent communication skills. Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing. Other essential attributes High level of personal and professional credibility.
