Senior Engineer - Radiological Consequences Analysis Role Title: Senior Radiological Consequences Analyst Locations: Hybrid work with one of the following primary sites: Derby, Manchester or Warrington. This role offers an opportunity to shape the safety and design of a next‑generation small modular reactor. About the Role As a senior radiological consequences analyst you will model radioactive releases during accident scenarios, define radiological exposure to workers and the public, and provide technical leadership to junior analysts. Responsibilities Engage with safety analysis, system design, performance analysis and severe accident analysis to scope candidate accident scenarios for RCA. Collaborate with the chemistry area to determine fundamental source terms. Develop Source Term and Radionuclide Transport (STaRT) methodologies for modelling radionuclide behaviour and transport during accident scenarios. Implement iodine chemistry models with support from the accident chemistry area. Apply software tools to calculate atmospheric dispersion to on‑site and off‑site receptor locations. Calculate radiological consequences—effective doses and conditional risks—applying the ICRP protection framework and considering Urgent Protective Actions where appropriate. Conduct RR‑SMR gated reviews to govern analysis work and solicit stakeholder feedback and endorsement. Produce high‑quality technical reports in accordance with RR‑SMR policies and processes. Perform technical reviews of RCA tasks completed by other team members. Key Selection Criteria Strong knowledge of radionuclide transport phenomena and analysis methods for design‑basis faults and severe accidents. Experience in public and worker dose assessments supporting safety cases and emergency planning. Familiarity with radiation protection principles, the ICRP framework and iodine treatment in RCA. Skill in developing analysis methods and tools, including Python‑based solutions for safety‑critical applications. Experience applying structured, methodical approaches to analysis and adhering to software quality assurance processes. Knowledge of nuclear industry domains such as probabilistic safety assessment, design‑basis fault analysis and emergency planning. Proven ability to deliver analysis tasks on time, to budget and with high quality, including strong communication and leadership skills. Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science; chartered status preferred. Salary and Benefits Salary range: £48,000–£63,000 DOE. Performance‑related bonus target: 12.5%. Benefits allowance: £2,200 per annum. Pension contributions: 12% employer, 6% employee. Holiday entitlement: 28 days plus public holidays, with option to buy/sell up to 4 days.
