Second Chef – Care Home – Carlisle Overview Are you a qualified chef looking to work with fresh seasonal food, enjoy a better work/life balance, and make a real difference? Working as a Second Chef at Barchester, you will help deliver hotel/restaurant standards, avoid split shifts and long weeks, and assist the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavoursome, well-balanced menus tailored for residents. Responsibilities Assist the Head Chef with menu development and kitchen management in their absence. Use fresh produce to deliver high-quality, wholesome dishes cooked to the highest standards. Create a warm, efficient and enjoyable kitchen environment. Work within budget and complete regular audits. Manage stock control and overall kitchen operations. Qualifications Hold City & Guilds / NVQ / SVQ or equivalent qualification. Good understanding of nutrition. Experience working with fresh, seasonal food. Warm, personable approach with genuine interest in residents’ wellbeing. Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising, nutritious menus. Good understanding of HACCP guidelines.
