Overview The Royal Marsden is a centre of excellence with an international reputation for ground-breaking research, complex major surgery and pioneering the latest in cancer treatments and technologies. Values and Working Environment Our values encompass showing kindness and compassion, putting patient care first, improving quality and safety of services, supporting new ways of working, taking responsibility for performance and priorities, and ensuring the best use of resources. We have seven modern theatres in Chelsea (including three robotic) and three theatres in Sutton. Specialties covered include Sarcoma and Melanoma, Upper and Lower GI, Plastics, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Urology and Breast, using a wide range of surgical techniques. The theatre scrub team is trusted, skilled, hardworking and supportive. Role We’re looking for a motivated and experienced scrub nurse or experienced scrub ODP who can demonstrate leadership qualities and a real interest in high quality perioperative care to join us. Key Responsibilities Carry out nursing care for patients as planned with the shift coordinator. Perform all tasks of a registered theatre nurse/ODP including resuscitation, scrub and circulation, following all checks and procedures as laid down in National and Trust theatre policy, without direct supervision. Responsible for safe use of complex scrub equipment (diathermy, laparoscopy, etc.) and sound knowledge of safe decontamination processes, especially for flexible scopes and instrument sterilisation. Support senior staff and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining clinical standards and staff development. Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients, clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi‑professional team. Complete the first level assessment of patient needs and document these on the care plan throughout admission to discharge/transfer. Gain understanding of the physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients with cancer and their families. Identify individual nursing problems and needs, plan and implement care, set goals and help patients achieve them. Document and evaluate care, discuss progress with colleagues, and alert the Sister/Charge Nurse of changing health‑care needs. Assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care. Monitor side‑effects of treatments and adopt a problem‑solving approach to minimise adverse reactions. Additional Information Our role is to offer the best cancer care available worldwide and continue to contribute to better diagnosis and treatment. We employ over 4,500 staff and have two hospitals – one in Chelsea, London, and one in Sutton, Surrey – plus a Medical Daycare Unit in Kingston Hospital. We offer a stimulating and dynamic working environment, a wide range of staff benefits, learning and development opportunities and clear career pathways. Flexible working requests are welcomed from point of hire to support work/life balance.
