Senior Mental Health Practitioner

Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our team based at St Johns Court in Exmouth. You will be based in Exmouth at St Johns Court, though as a team we cover all of East Devon and there may be times when you will be required to work out of an alternative base within our area. You will be responsible for managing and directing the care of some of the most vulnerable people we are responsible for, many of whom will have complex and ongoing needs. You will use your skills and experience to deliver person‑centred care, which inspires hope & recovery. You will have direct experience of working with older adults in a community mental health setting for this role. You will play a key role in a multidisciplinary team, working with multiple agencies on a daily basis. You will be confident working without supervision, with the knowledge to devise individual recovery plans for the people you see. We will help the right person progress within this role, and we will provide a range of training opportunities that can help you develop the skills you need to thrive in this role. Responsibilities Manage a caseload of older adult clients, providing evidence‑based interventions for patients, carers, families and other professionals. Cover duty across the service, managing urgent enquiries and providing advice. Provide assessments for patients with both functional and organic illnesses. Demonstrate how your involvement has improved patient care & experience, and influence teams to deliver high‑quality care. Communicate clearly and confidently with people who use our services, their families & carers, staff and stakeholders from all backgrounds. Work in a multidisciplinary and multi‑agency environment, and participate in user involvement in services. Qualifications Professional mental health qualification and registration (e.g. RMN, Social Work degree, BSc/Diploma in OT, SROT). Understanding of the Mental Health Act / Mental Health Capacity Act requirements. Understanding of the CPA Process. Understanding of community structures and Health and Social Care Agenda for Older Adults. Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health. Understanding of the organic presentations in older people. Excellent communication skills, able to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health presentations. Able to produce well‑written reports and present information in a group setting. Ability to assess and develop plans to manage risk and recognise potential difficulties. Excellent clinical assessment skills and ability to manage change positively. Willingness to use and learn IT systems, e.g. electronic record keeping. Experience Substantial experience managing an extensive and complex caseload of clients with a range of complex mental health presentations. Experience delivering model‑based psychological therapy. Experience working within a community mental health setting (statutory or voluntary sector) and providing clinical supervision. Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency environment. Participation in user involvement in services.
