Financial Controller – Orla Rose Associates Location: Bristol, England, United Kingdom Role Overview A leading brand and event production agency is looking for a commercially sharp, detail‑obsessed Financial Controller to take full ownership of its financial operations and help shape the future of the business. If you’re comfortable working deep in the numbers as well as influencing strategic decisions, this role gives you the chance to make a real impact in a high‑growth creative environment. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts via Xero. Lead budgeting and forecasting at both business and project level. Build dashboards and reports that give leadership clear financial visibility. Present commercial insights that highlight profitability opportunities. Cash Flow, Payroll & Cost Control Own cash flow management, ensuring the business stays well‑capitalised for growth. Drive cost‑control initiatives without compromising creative output. Oversee payroll for employees, freelancers, and contractors via Xero Payroll. Manage pensions, holiday pay, statutory payments, and supplier relationships. Lead debtor/creditor control and oversee all insurance requirements. Project Profitability Implement robust financial tracking for each project from quote to completion. Monitor real‑time actuals vs forecasts, flagging risks early. Partner with project teams to ensure all work hits profitability targets. Analyse historical performance to improve pricing, quoting, and forecasting. Compliance & Governance Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, and all statutory requirements. Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors. Maintain strong internal financial controls and risk management processes. Systems & Process Improvement Maximise the full capability of Xero and associated integrations. Identify and implement systems that streamline and automate financial processes. Train internal teams on finance processes and profitability awareness. Qualifications What You’ll Bring ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent). 4+ years’ experience in financial management/controller roles. Experience managing a small team. Advanced Xero expertise across reporting, payroll, and project tracking. Strong UK accounting, tax, and payroll compliance knowledge. Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills. Familiarity with multi‑entity or international operations. Experience implementing systems for project profitability tracking. Personal Attributes Commercially minded with strong business acumen.
