DSL is an inclusive school, offers an appealing and challenging educational programme from 'Kindergarten' to Abitur with a specific emphasis on German language and culture and excellent pastoral care.PositionThe School Counsellor / Educational Psychologist works in an international school with pupils from Kindergarten to Secondary School (age 3 to 19 years of age). You will work as part of a specialist team and closely with the teaching staff. The role is varied and includes providing counselling to our students as well as supporting the specialist team (‘Beratungsquadrat) to assess, design, and deliver individual interventions to promote pupils’ emotional wellbeing. Provided you are qualified, assessments of students regarding numeracy, reading and writing disorders would also be part of your job.RequirementsThe Job RoleCounselling or guidance and support for pupils, parents and teachersWork on 1:1 basis with children and adolescents, who present emotional wellbeing concernsWork with groups of students on topics regarding social skills and emotional well beingSupervision, development and implementation of preventative measuresWork within a multidisciplinary team (Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs, Social Educational Worker)If qualified, assessing students regarding numeracy, reading and writing disorders and writing reportsAttend regular Safeguarding and other relevant trainingTake part in decision taking for referrals to Single Point of Access (SPA)Essential Skills and ExperienceDegree in Psychology or equivalent level of education in a related fieldPractical experience in counselling children aged 3 to 19Minimum of 1-year experience of working in a school environmentEvidence of working as part of a small team to support children’s wellbeingGood knowledge of learning strategiesSome experience in working with parentsAdaptable and sensitive when communicating with parents and teachersTeam player with excellent communication and conflict management skillsDedicated and highly motivatedAbility to work independentlyCapacity for study and continued professional developmentEmotional resilience and maturityExcellent communication skills in English (oral and written)Desirable Skills and ExperienceRegistered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)Experience working in an international schoolSome experience in testing pupils for a range of special educational needsGerman oral and written skillsUnderstanding of Safeguarding rules in the UKOther informationGood salaryGenerous annual leaveFree on-site parkingOn-site Cafeteria with high quality food options for excellent valueEnhanced sick payBeautiful working environmentCycle to work' schemeTo apply please upload your application including CV and Covering Letter to the DSL website, including details of how you meet each of the essential criteria listed on the person specification.The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
