In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new Mental Health Support Teams (named by children and young people in the region as Wellbeing in Mind teams) are an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence‑based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England. We currently have 5 Wellbeing in Mind teams across North Yorkshire, which are embedded within education settings. We are looking to recruit a new Education Mental Health Practitioner. The successful candidates will become part of a team delivering support to schools in the Scarborough & Ryedale area. Applicants must have successfully completed the 1 year Post Graduate Certificate ‘Education Mental Health Practitioner’ course and be registered with either the BABCP or BPS. Main duties of the job The Wellbeing in Mind team has 3 functions: Support the development of a whole‑school or college approach to wellbeing. This can include, but is not limited to, supporting sites to develop and implement mental health and wellbeing policies, development of resources, supporting campaigns and delivering training, assemblies and PHSE curriculum. Provide timely advice and consultation to education staff. This is designed to support teaching staff to build their skills and confidence in supporting the wellbeing needs of their students/pupils. This is offered in both a formal and informal way. Undertake direct assessments and intervention for young people within education. We offer a low intensity service model, predominantly using cognitive‑behavioural therapy. Each function accounts for a third of the team's workload. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Person Specification Qualifications Successful completion of a Health Education England commissioned 1 year Post Graduate Diploma (Educational Mental Health Practitioner) BSc Hons Evidence of CPD in child and adolescent mental health and/or education Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both written and. Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills. Work in line with the vision for the future of children's and young people’s services. Sound value-based practice which empowers individuals and promotes wellness and is recovery focused. Demonstrate personal qualities and skills which involve taking the lead in teaching and/or having presentation skills against various individuals and groups across the sectors. Commitment to ensure core skills and knowledge is updated on a yearly basis. Experience Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children. Ability to conduct group parenting programmes. Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within the staff group. Ability to conduct mental health assessments of children and young people. Ability to make an assessment of risk and to record and communicate it appropriately. Ability to take appropriate action to mitigate or manage risk. Providing training with education staff in an education setting. Knowledge Ability to learn in a variety of settings using a variety of learning methods. Competency in the delivery of Low Intensity Psychological Therapy. Team player. Ability to complete CPD as a self‑motivated learner who can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate pathways to achievement with supervisory teams. Knowledge of the educational system in England. Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing and/or mental health. Knowledge of safeguarding, capacity and consent including Gillick competence.
