Plant Fitter – Hybrid/Mobile Transmission & Distribution Ltd, Darlington, County Durham Full‑time, Permanent – 24 weeks minimum familiarisation and training period. UK travel required. Responsibilities Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on specialist OHL plant & equipment including winches, puller/tensioners, tractors, HGVs, and other specialist plant. Support mobilisation and demobilisation of plant for OHL projects. Conduct pre‑use inspections, fault finding, and routine servicing of mechanical systems. Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing in line with manufacturer and company standards. Ensure all repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Maintain accurate service and repair records in compliance with company procedures. Work on‑site to attend breakdowns and perform emergency repairs when required. Order and fit replacement parts, ensuring cost‑effective and timely repairs. Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations. Communicate effectively with the workshop team, supervisors, and site managers regarding job progress and issues with plant and equipment. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a clean and organised working environment. Qualifications Essential: Asbestos awareness COSHH awareness Emergency first aid at work Face‑to‑face test – Alphasolway Fire awareness Harness and fall arrest LOLER awareness Manual handling Environmental awareness Working at height awareness Desirable: HAVS awareness ECITB abrasive wheels Spill management BORDA off‑road driver – 4x4 pick‑ups DVLA towing licence training and test Time served fitter with recognised qualifications (e.g. tractor dealership, plant, transport dealership, relevant construction company) HGV class 2 licence (class 1 desirable) CITB / CPCS or recognised equivalent lorry loader certificate desirable Digital tachograph card desirable Strap & chains – loads must be fully competent Fork‑lift / telehandler licence desirable Right to work in the UK required.
