Junior Data Engineer – 32482 at Environment Agency The Environment Agency is modernising its systems and IT infrastructure, moving towards Microsoft Azure cloud computing and Microsoft analytics tooling such as Synapse Analytics, Fabric and PowerBI. You will join the Water Quality Digital Services team to develop and deploy data products and analytics tools that enable the Water Quality user community to leverage data from various sources, inform business insights and drive effective policy changes. Responsibilities Build, maintain and optimise reliable ETL pipelines to integrate data from diverse sources. Design and implement data models, including STAR schema, that support efficient querying and analysis. Develop data products and analytics tools using Python and SQL, ensuring production‑quality, reusable code. Work closely with the Water Quality user community to translate reporting and analytics requirements into solutions. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the country to deliver high quality data services. Apply data management and data analysis best practices to solve complex problems and provide actionable insights. Promote inclusion and collaboration while working with people from diverse backgrounds. Qualifications & Experience Extensive experience managing and analysing large datasets from multiple sources. Experience organising data in STAR schema data models for relational data warehouses. Strong Python expertise, including development of clean, reusable functions and object‑oriented code for production‑quality solutions. Solid knowledge of SQL Server, database management and data warehousing best practices. Proficiency with analytical tools and programming languages to transform raw data into actionable insights. Ability to solve complex problems and formulate efficient and innovative solutions using sound data management and analysis practices. Additional Information You will be based in EA Office with flexible / hybrid work arrangements; some travel and overnights may be required. Appropriate training will be provided, and you will receive inclusive incident management objectives in your development plan.
