Start Date: April or September 2026 Full Time ECT/MPR/UPR. Our English Department is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated English Teacher with a love for their subject to join a great team. We have twelve specialist teachers who use a range of traditional and progressive teaching methodologies, contributing to the academic and pastoral life of the school. Our department consistently achieves good outcomes and is well‑resourced, located at the heart of the main school building. We work closely with county and national projects to develop curriculum‑wide literacy and oracy skills. We have reading programmes such as “Thinking Reading” and a whole‑school tutor reading programme, run GCSE trips like “Poetry Live”, Shakespeare workshops for KS3 pupils, and a new Public Speaking Club to help students develop confidence, articulation and persuasive communication. Responsibilities Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils to excel academically Maintain relentlessly high expectations of yourself and pupils Teach across the full age range of pupils – year 7 to year 11 Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the department and wider school through sharing resources, good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and participation in a continuous professional studies programme Teach a standard timetable allocation Contribute positively to the efficient running of the department, including setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative tasks delegated by the Curriculum Leader Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children Support the school’s aims and objectives for teaching and learning Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures Qualifications Good degree in a directly related subject (desirable) Thorough knowledge of the (11‑16) subject curriculum up to GCSE Recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience Awareness of safeguarding requirements and good practice Good level of IT literacy Capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range Demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils Excellent classroom management skills Excellent communication skills for dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors Organised and self‑motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines A good sense of humour Benefits Access to an exceptional Professional Studies Programme Access to CPD from PiXL, Hampshire Local Authority, subject‑specific CPD and in‑house CPD Bespoke in‑house English CPD Part of a school with a real team approach where you are valued and supported Well‑resourced curriculum area, including your own laptop Contribution to the Teacher's Pension Scheme Lifestyle discounts through the employee “Lifestyle Savings Platform” Access to a free counselling service via Health Assured On‑site parking A dedicated teaching and learning training room A staff room with complimentary refreshments, and food provided at whole‑school events such as Parents’ Evenings Application Procedure Only applications using our HCC application form will be reviewed; we cannot accept CVs.
