Job Overview With the assistance of the Production Coordinators, the post holder will be responsible for the daily production activity of the Decontamination Facilities, ensuring that service provision is maintained and provided in compliance with the relevant national standards. The post holder is expected to deputise for a Production Coordinator in her / his absence. The role routinely involves exposure to blood and body fluids. Qualifications Either obtained or working towards a Supervisory qualification. Experience of working within a Sterile Services environment. Previous experience of supervising and organising staff. Experience of staff rotas. Knowledge of decontamination procedures and best practice. Experience of electronic data acquisition and recording. Knowledge of ETO and gas plasma sterilization. Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Approachable to staff at all levels. Proven ability to manage and prioritise own workload and that of others in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge of basic Infection Control. Ability to encourage, support and motivate staff to achieve a desired outcome. Extensive knowledge of surgical instrumentation. Responsibilities Participate in the provision of a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient. Work in accordance with Departmental Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems. Assist in the regular review of Standard Operating Procedures. Direct the reprocessing of reusable medical devices: disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, assembly, sterilization, dispatch and tracking in a controlled environment. Supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced/qualified staff. Understand the Department’s Quality Policy, Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure a high standard of work is maintained at all times. Plan own workload and work with minimal supervision. Report shortfalls in staffing levels or other operational anomalies to the department’s Production Coordinator. Operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests in accordance with Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, Quality Standards and Guidance. Record all routine testing of decontamination equipment. Use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of reusable medical devices in accordance with Manufacturer’s instructions. Communicate and supervise enquiries from users and other members of healthcare staff politely and helpfully, seeking scientific advice from Production Coordinators when required. Ensure adequate checks and quality assurance of all items processed through the department. Understand departmental procedures, standards and protocols and deliver a safe, quality‑assured product. Serve as the secondary point of contact for issues such as missing, dirty or fast‑track instruments when the Production Coordinator is unavailable. Assist the Production Coordinator in the investigation of complaints, accidents or incidents and provide feedback as required. Use knowledge and skills when making decisions with regard to non‑conformances. Monitor stocks of raw materials as requested and take appropriate action on any deficiencies, assist in evaluating new products. Meet the demands of the Department’s workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards measured by in‑process checks and non‑conformance reports. Undertake initial investigation into non‑conformance reports as instructed. Ensure that rejected items are adequately labelled, recorded and isolated from approved items. Hold the department bleep and mobile phone when deputising for the Production Coordinator. Respond accurately and quickly to the Decontamination Facilities’ Management team when requested to extract information via the department’s tracking system. Ensure Health & Safety Policies of the Trust and the Department are adhered to at all times. Promote good relations both internally and externally to North Bristol Trust. Agree a personal development plan through the appraisal process with your line manager. With the assistance of the Production Coordinator create and review the duty rota, meeting the needs of staff while ensuring service requirements are met. Maintain a regular effective system of communication with the department as a whole. Work as part of a team and liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team in a professional manner at all times. Work alongside organisational colleagues to contribute to the NBT’s vision and values “Exceptional healthcare, personally delivered” and to the Facilities objectives, divisional and departmental delivery plans. Bring Health and Safety issues to the attention of senior management and resolve them quickly. Maintain security of the Decontamination Facilities, equipment and chemicals in accordance with the Department’s Policy. Undertake such duties as required, consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
