Post Title: Lecturer in Computer Science SBU/Department: School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science/Department of Computer Science FTE: 1.0 FTE (37 working hours per week) • Duration of Contract: Permanent • Salary: UH7 £38,784pa to £46,049pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience • Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year. • Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield Applications are invited for two academic positions as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire within the Human Centred Computing academic subject group. The department has an international reputation for teaching and research, with nearly 90 academic staff, divided into five academic subject groups. In addition, we support 150 adjunct staff, and 70 research students and postdoctoral research staff. With a history going back to 1965, the department supports one of the largest cohorts of students in the UK, including thriving online provision. Main duties and responsibilities The Lecturer in Computer Science will play an important role as part of a team incorporating the Head of Department or Subject Group Leader, programme leader, module leaders, the professional, administrative and technical staff (if applicable), the Dean of School and the Associate Deans of School. You will have responsibility for teaching and research in Computer Science with a specific emphasis on: HCI and User Experience Interface development Social and affective computing Business analysis / digital transformation The Lecturer in Computer Science will undertake teaching, learning and assessment and will be expected to lead modules and design engaging teaching activities. This will include marking of assessments and supervising student projects commensurate with experience and expertise. You will be expected to attend the Module Boards of Examiners if applicable, and attend, and contribute to, Programme Committee Meetings, Programme Team Meetings and other subject group meetings and working groups as required. The Lecturer in Computer Science will also provide pastoral and academic support for home and international students and may be expected to teach across mainstream areas of Computer Science. You may have an opportunity to strengthen the research culture in the Department by undertaking research and scholarly activities, as appropriate. Skills and experience required You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have relevant teaching experience at HE level. You will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established teaching programmes and have an appreciation of the educational needs of students. Additionally, you will have an understanding of students’ prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations. You will have excellent organisation, planning and IT skills and the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. The ability to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues and the ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities is essential. It is desirable that candidates have relevant experience of research, audit or service evaluation projects and dissemination of research findings. Qualifications required You will be educated with a minimum of a Masters degree or equivalent Level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
