Senior Structural Engineer Location: Derby, England, United Kingdom Seniority level Mid‑Senior level Employment type Full‑time Job function Consulting, Engineering, and Design Industries Civil Engineering and Construction About the Role I’m recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer to join a growing civil and structural engineering contractor delivering reinforced concrete structures, infrastructure and water‑sector schemes across the Midlands and wider UK. This is a senior technical and leadership role, providing expert design input, supporting project delivery teams, and helping drive quality across a diverse portfolio of structural and civil engineering projects. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of hands‑on design, team leadership, site involvement and technical assurance. Responsibilities and Qualifications Lead structural design of reinforced concrete and steel elements, including foundations, retaining walls, frames and heavy civil structures. Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications and design reports at all stages of the project. Provide technical leadership for junior engineers and technicians, offering mentorship and design checking. Support site teams with design queries, inspections, temporary works input and buildability advice. Manage design interfaces with civils, geotechnical, mechanical and construction colleagues. Ensure compliance with Eurocodes, CDM Regulations and client standards. Contribute to technical planning, risk reviews and project programming. Represent the business professionally in client meetings and design reviews. Assist with innovation, digital tools and continuous improvement of design workflows. Degree‑qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering. Ideally Chartered or working toward CEng status (ICE/IStructE). Significant experience in structural design for reinforced concrete and steel within consultancy, contractor or design & build environments. Comfortable leading design packages and checking work produced by others. Proficient in structural analysis and modelling software, plus AutoCAD. Strong communicator with the ability to work closely with delivery teams and clients. Confident, proactive and able to manage multiple workstreams. Full UK driving licence.
