Lecturer in Global Politics
About us The department of EISPS is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Global Politics with a regional specialization in Latin America. EISPS is a multidisciplinary department centred around the delivery of three undergraduate degrees, with a developing culture of research on European and international affairs and area studies. It is housed within UCL’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The department brings together the humanities and social sciences, with strengths in European and international history, law, philosophy and politics, alongside a strong commitment to language teaching. The successful candidate will become a key part of our team with the task of consolidating our excellent teaching record and developing the department’s research profile. About the role We are looking for a Lecturer in Global Politics with an interest in multidisciplinary education and research, and an ability to teach undergraduate classes, including modules on social science methods. The successful candidate will contribute to the department in all facets, including research, teaching, pastoral care, supervision, and administrative duties. This will involve convening three to four modules over the course of the academic year, contributing to jointly taught modules, taking on an appropriate administrative role, and developing the departmental research culture. We are seeking a candidate with an ambitious research agenda and a proven track record at a level appropriate for the role. Ideally, the candidate will demonstrate an interest and ability to engage in multidisciplinary research and teaching in global politics or a closely related field (international relations, international studies, comparative politics). We encourage applications from candidates whose work intersects with the following areas of interest to the department and UCL more broadly: climate change, technology, and equality (see also UCL Grand Challenges). Candidates must have a regional/area specialization in Latin America. About you The post holder will develop teaching in their area of expertise and serve as the primary point of contact for students interested in related topics, undertaking dissertation supervision and marking. They will also be expected to pursue an ambitious research agenda and develop their area of expertise in the department and the faculty. This includes exploring synergies with other UCL departments, participating in or setting up research groups, supporting staff-student collaboration and the development of partnerships with other universities and institutions. The postholder will have a PhD in international relations, global politics, comparative politics or another closely related area. Previous experience of teaching, research and engagement in a university department is highly advantageous, as is knowledge of the connection between scholarship, policy and practice, and evidence of external grant success. All these should be commensurate with the level of the post and the expected career progression of the successful candidate. The postholder will take on pastoral responsibilities in the department, including personal tutoring, and will help students make informed and academically sound choices about their module selection and career trajectories. #J-18808-Ljbffr
