Just Like Us is recruiting a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees, to oversee Just Like Us’ financial affairs. This is a voluntary role and applicants should have Chartered Accountant status.Just Like Us is the LGBT+ young people’s charity. Growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. Founded in 2016, we work with schools across the UK to change this; empowering young people and teachers to champion LGBT+ equality.We run programmes in schools across the UK:School Diversity Week and Resource Library: More than 7,000 primary and secondary schools are signed up to receive our free educational resources to help them celebrate in June every yearAmbassadors and School talks: We train LGBT+ young people (18 to 25 year olds) to deliver relatable talks in secondary schools on allyship and growing up LGBT+Pride Groups: We help secondary schools and young leaders to set up a Pride Group for LGBT+ pupils and their allies; providing training, resources and 121 supportOur achievementsWe are the UK’s leading LGBT+ young people’s charityMore than 7,000 primary and secondary schools across the UK take part in our programmesOur funding has quickly grown to just over £1m annual income since the charity began in 2016We have trained thousands of LGBT+ young people to deliver talks in schools, and currently have almost 500 volunteer ambassadorsOur patrons are actor Jonathan Bailey, paralympian Lauren Rowles and doctor and TV presenter Dr RonxRole ProfileGeneral ResponsibilitiesIn addition to the responsibilities outlined in The Charity Commission’s The Essential Trustee: what you need to know, as a trustee you will be expected to:Review board papers and attend board meetings (minimum of 4 times a year)Give firm strategic direction to the organisation, assess risk and evaluate performanceEnsure that Just Like Us pursues its charitable objectives and complies with its governing document and other relevant legislation or regulationsSupport the employed leadership teamRepresent Just Like Us at eventsSpecific ResponsibilitiesAs Treasurer, you will also be expected to:Oversee Just Like Us’ financial affairs, ensuring our ongoing financial viability and compliance with legal and constitutional obligations including the Charities SORPEnsure that the Board of Trustees understands and complies with their financial obligations, and guide the Board in their financial appraisal of Just Like UsEnsure that effective and appropriate financial procedures and controls are in placeWork with the leadership team to review and report on Just Like Us’ financial risk management process and financial health at board meetingsWork with the CEO to produce our annual accounts and budget forecasts, and be a key point of contact during the annual audit of accountsAct as a counter signatory for online banking and applications to fundersAs Treasurer you should have:Chartered Accountant statusAwareness and knowledge of not-for-profit accounting and the Charities SORPCommitment to our vision and missionStrategic vision and good, independent, critical judgementUnderstanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeshipAnalytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgementWillingness to be available to employed staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basisWe are keen to hear from underrepresented voices, particularly trans and non-binary, Black and/or PoC candidates.
