Band 4 Orthopaedic/Surgical Physiotherapy Assistant The closing date is 14 December 2025. Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapy Assistant within Orthopaedics and Surgery at a Band 4 level, to join our friendly and highly skilled team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and support staff on a full‑time basis. The post will include working with elective orthopaedic inpatients, the elective surgery pre‑assessment team, elective patients from other surgical specialties, and our developing prehabilitation service for elective joint replacements, including delivering education sessions pre‑operatively. This post will be primarily based out of our accredited elective hub at the King George Hospital site, with an opportunity to work cross‑site at Queens Hospital if required. You will be able to assess and discharge patients independently, provide advice and support to patients and family members, and work closely with the MDT to provide evidence‑based patient‑centred care. In return you will receive regular supervision and support, as well as training and career development opportunities. Weekend and twilight working will be required. Main duties of the job To provide skilled routine, and some non‑routine, clinical and non‑clinical support to the Orthopaedic and Surgical Therapy team. The state‑registered therapist will at all times remain responsible for ensuring the protocols and guidelines are followed, monitoring the progression of patients, overseeing clinical quality, and ensuring the appropriateness of the treatment practised. Weekend and twilight working will be required. Person Specification Education / Qualifications Evidence of recent relevant and appropriate training and CPD Willingness to follow a training programme Skills / Abilities Ability to communicate information (verbal, non‑verbal and written) in an accurate, clear and logical manner Ability to work at moderate to intense physical effort throughout the day Computer skills to ECDL level or equivalent, or the ability to work towards ECDL Experience / Knowledge To have experience as a Therapy Assistant, preferably within the speciality of orthopaedics Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
