Academic Skills Lecturer Department: Academic/Bath Spa University (BSU), University of Suffolk (UoS), Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), Oxford Brooks University (OBU) and/or Pearson partnerships Location: Birmingham (On-Site) Salary: £51,000 Type of Contract: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours per week) Our Vision Changing lives through education. The role Full‑time Study Skills Lecturer collaborating with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level across our partner universities. You will improve English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy and basic IT skills, reading, writing and higher‑order research skills. Flexibility to teach weekdays, evenings and weekends is required. What You’ll Be Doing Designing and documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans and individual schemes of work to develop study skills in the curriculum. Delivering and evaluating teaching, identifying areas for improvement to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and overall student experience in line with the GBS Learning and Teaching strategy. Providing feedback on individual and class progress in academic writing and related study skills. Conducting tutorial consultations, giving constructive comments tailored to each student’s needs, explaining what fails to meet assessment criteria and suggesting improvement strategies. Recording appointment details for statistical and quality purposes and referring students to other services as appropriate. Engaging with VLE and research resources, facilitating student learning through online resources and activities. Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes. About You Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable). Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the broader subject area. Successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes. Proven experience providing individual and group study‑skills support in response to identified learning needs. Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development such as reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, project and dissertation support, or peer‑assisted learning. High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills. Desirable Expertise in digital educational resources development, course design and curriculum development. DELTA qualification. Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during probation and complete within three years) or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or international equivalent).
