Residential Activity Leader – St Andrew's College Language Schools Job Overview The Residential Activity Leader role includes all meals and accommodation. A well‑organised activity programme is crucial to the success of a summer school, and proactive, enthusiastic, motivated Activity Leaders are integral to the high standards of service that St Andrew’s College Language Schools provide to clients. In this role you will plan, organise and promote activities and excursions, encouraging and motivating students to participate fully and enjoy the stay. As a Residential Activity Leader you will support the Campus Management Team with welfare, administration, safety and security duties for students in residential accommodation, including assisting with arrival and departure, airport transfers and evening work. You will promote, organise and run all activities and events, both on and off campus, under the guidance of the Activity and Excursion Manager(s). You may oversee other staff when leading activities and excursions. Essential Requirements Ability to organise and manage own work Ability to communicate effectively Ability to adapt quickly to change and be flexible Demonstrate initiative to take on extra tasks Enjoy working with children and teenagers from different cultures Ability to address large groups of young people Good problem‑solving skills Pass Disclosure Scotland/DBS/background checking/vetting procedures Maintain a smart personal appearance Based on 40 hours per week, holiday pay included, 2026 rates TBC Desirable Requirements Experience of working with children Previous summer school experience Previous activity‑leading experience Ability to maintain long periods of physical activity Responsibilities Read and understand the staff handbook and fully converse with policies for the welfare and protection of children. Be fully conversant with the school’s rules and ensure they are followed. Prepare for activity sessions thoroughly; planning and promoting the activity, ensuring health & safety requirements are met, having equipment set up, and tidying after sessions. Encourage student involvement, lead by example, promote events, and manage student sign‑ups. Look after materials/equipment, ensure they are returned after each activity, maintain accurate attendance registers, and provide feedback to the Manager. Escort groups on local walks and excursions, ensuring safety and welfare of students. Familiarise yourself with the Excursion Guidelines booklet and provide information to students while on excursions. Assist with airport transfers, centre administration, and general tasks as directed. Assist with closing the centre, returning equipment, and participating in the Staff Induction Day (paid). Ensure Health & Safety policies are implemented and monitored. Assist with breakfast, lunch and dinner supervision and student interaction. Assist the Welfare Coordinator with lights‑out duties and pastoral care liaison. Help students adjust to life in the UK, providing safety, law, culture and campus rule information. Assist with student orientation and induction, ensuring room cards and lanyards are issued. Support Group Leaders in supervising students during the day. Assist with free‑time supervision and pre‑arrival/departure checks. Help build community spirit via notice boards, residence rules, and competitions. Maintain student discipline, liaise with Campus Management Team and Group Leaders, report damages immediately. Assistance with general administration such as photocopying, student packs, etc. Perform additional duties as required. Additional Information May be required to work in excess of 48 hours per week. Evening and weekend work required. All staff accrue pro‑rata paid holiday during employment. Holiday pay in lieu of untaken holiday paid at end of contract. Pay processed weekly: work until Sunday 20 July processed on Friday 25 July; work until Sunday 24 August processed on Friday 29 August plus holiday pay. Company t‑shirts, lanyards and ID badges provided and must be worn at all times on duty. Salaries paid in arrears into a UK bank account on last Friday of each month. No overtime payment unless expressly agreed with Managing Director. Staff must be employees of St Andrew’s College Language Schools. Disclosure Checks In accordance with British Council accreditation criterion S4, you must provide a Disclosure (PVG in Scotland or ‘Enhanced’ DBS in England) dated within three months of the start date in 2026. The cost (£18–£67.50) is payable by the employee and will be deducted from salary. The company reserves the right to carry out PVG checks for all employees who do not provide a suitable disclosure. You must also provide email and telephone contacts for three referees who can verify suitability to work with those under 18. Benefits Accommodation included. Summer 2026 duration.
