Bristol, United Kingdom City of Bristol College Full time

Research Associate in DNA Repair Biochemistry This postdoctoral position will support a research programme in Professor Nigel Savery’s laboratory, focusing on DNA repair—particularly the mechanisms of nucleotide excision repair and the role of UvrD in transcription-coupled repair. The post is funded by the University of Bristol, and the role holder will have some teaching responsibilities as outlined in the job description. The post is closely linked to an EPSRC-supported doctoral training network, through which two PhD students are pursuing related projects, and forms part of an active collaboration with the Dillingham laboratory at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will contribute to the scientific development of these projects while also leading independent and collaborative research within the lab. What will you be doing? Design and conduct biochemical experiments investigating DNA–protein interactions relevant to nucleotide excision repair and transcription-coupled repair. Develop and optimise assays (e.g., DNA repair assays, EMSA, fluorescence anisotropy). Collaborate closely with PhD students and support their training and development. Analyse and interpret experimental results; contribute to publications and dissemination. Assist with lab organisation, compliance, and reporting. Supervise undergraduate research projects and contribute to teaching activities where appropriate. You should apply if You hold a PhD (or working towards one) in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related discipline. You have extensive experience in protein expression and purification, including Fe–S cluster proteins. You are skilled in quantitative DNA–protein interaction assays (EMSA, fluorescence-based approaches). You have a strong background in DNA repair research and can design and troubleshoot complex biochemical experiments. You communicate effectively and work well in a collaborative research environment.
