Join Murphy as a Principal Civil/Structural Permanent Works Design Engineer and take a leading role in delivering critical water infrastructure across the UK. Working on AMP8 frameworks with clients like United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, and Thames Water, you’ll be at the heart of our self-delivery model, integrating both design and construction to deliver efficient, buildable, and sustainable solutions.From shafts and buried chambers to foundations, tanks, drainage, and roads, you’ll design the civil and structural elements of water and wastewater treatment works that directly improve river quality and environmental outcomes. Based from one of our offices in Stonecross, Cannock, or Kentish Town, you’ll collaborate closely with project and site teams to develop practical solutions that make a real impact above and below ground.Under the banner of Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.ResponsibilitiesBe Applied Engineering's single point of contact to multiple projects with management responsibility for project deliverables and costs.Report to the Senior Engineering Manager.Represent the Applied Engineering team in collaborative project team meetings, carry out civil/structural designs, and act as checker on other designs.Undertake site visits when appropriate.Collate feedback on solutions and contribute to lessons learned meetings.Prepare fully integrated permanent works proposals/solutions to meet the company’s bid and project delivery stage requirements.Manage the design work of other staff members and external designers.Mentor staff at all levels within Applied Engineering, including graduates.Work collaboratively with other Principal Engineers in the development and growth of the department.RequirementsHND/Bachelor/Master’s Degree in Civil EngineeringDesigner with the ability to manage projects from design and cost perspectivesExperience of effective financial management and control of projectsStrong analysis and design skills with the ability to interpret design requirements and analyse complex structuresOpen-minded approach to solving civil and structural engineering challenges to find the best solution from all perspectives of a projectPreferably Chartered with ICE and/or IStructEWhat’s in it for you?27 days holiday, plus bank holidays with the option to buy an additional 2 days per year; holidays increase with length of serviceDiscretionary annual bonus and annual salary reviewAbove market rate contributory pension schemeLife assurance, health screening and enhanced sick payEnhanced maternity and paternity pay and a maternity returners bonusExtra weeks holiday for all employees getting married and a wedding bonusSubsidised canteen facilities in core locationsDedicated and continued investment in professional developmentOther Murphy benefits include retail discounts and cashback, discounted gym memberships, cycle to work scheme, etc.About MurphyMurphy is formally recognised as a sector leading employer, Gold Investors In People accredited, with reported operating profit up 57% on prior year.
