Senior Technology Engineer – Network Rail High Speed Ltd Contract: Permanent | Full‑Time Location: London, Stratford Place About Network Rail High Speed Ltd (NRHS) At Network Rail High Speed Ltd (NRHS) we operate and maintain the UK's first international high‑speed railway, HS1, which connects London St Pancras International with Europe. This 109km route involves track, signalling, overhead lines, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts, tunnels and the three international stations: St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International. NRHS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, privately financed under an agreement with our client, London St Pancras High Speed. Innovative technology is at the heart of NRHS’s vision for a smarter, safer and more sustainable railway. The Technology Innovation team leads the development and deployment of advanced solutions, from automated inspection systems and AI‑driven analytics to potential future digital twins and robotics. As part of this team you will shape the future of maintenance and asset management, delivering projects such as the use of drones and vision cameras that transform traditional practices into intelligent, data‑led processes. This is an opportunity to pioneer change, influence industry standards and make a lasting impact on the high‑speed rail sector. We are looking for a forward‑thinking Senior Engineer to join our Engineering and Safety team—an autonomous department that holds its own safety case and operates with independence and authority. This unique position offers the opportunity to influence policy, standards and strategic direction while delivering technical excellence across the HS1 route. For the Innovation role it is essential to have experience in software and data analytics and the ability to advise on future capabilities within existing systems. Key Responsibilities Provide expert technical advice and support for customers and suppliers. Offer professional leadership for a designated engineering discipline. Lead technical input into accident and incident investigations. Support the development of policy, standards and operational processes. Design and deliver programmes for technical capability development, including competence frameworks and training materials. Develop standards, specifications, compliance measures and KPIs for asset management. Support engineering analysis, risk assessment and applications for derogations and non‑compliance. Discharge CDM‑related duties as required. Drive strategy, technology and asset development across functions and with industry partners. Liaise with manufacturers and external stakeholders, providing input into acceptance processes. Research and respond to changes in internal and external requirements impacting policy and standards. Identify opportunities for technical and business process improvement and innovation. Act as Delivery Manager for specific projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality. Represent Network Rail externally and contribute to European issues as required. Integrate and coordinate activity across engineering disciplines and support the development of engineers within the practice. Essential Requirements Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Level 6) or equivalent experience. Membership of a relevant technical body. Broad technical engineering experience. Experience in project or financial planning and management. Knowledge and experience in software and data analytics, and the ability to advise on future capabilities within existing systems. Desirable Requirements Management or supervisory experience. Chartered Engineer status. Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP). Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual and financial issues. Knowledge of the railway industry and understanding of railway infrastructure.
