Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and have the ability to plan and reach complex and critical judgments and have decision making skills. To deliver high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison. This will include acute & primary care, long term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services and health promotion activities and be in line with the NHS Plan, public health indicators and National Service Frameworks. To demonstrate and provide robust expert clinical skills with a sound understanding of evidence-based nursing practice to provide a pro-active approach to ensure quality and outcome driven practice on a day-to-day basis. To support the development of evidence-based practice in the specialist field and to promote research as appropriate. To participate in managerial and professional clinical supervision programme, to ensure junior staff receive appropriate supervision, training and annual appraisal and to ensure that it becomes an integral part of team practice. To ensure the implementation of effective and appropriate patient centred care planning tools, long-term condition registers and consistent delivery throughout all the prisons within the service. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead, GPs, and other clinicians to meet and review service needs as required. To deputise for the Team manager as required To work positively and effectively in a difficult and often hostile environment. Be aware of environmental hazards in the working area; ensure staffs are aware of relevant health & safety policies deriving from the Health & Safety at Work Act. To work in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines To be familiar with Prison Standards, Standing Orders, Circular instructions, Notices to Staff, Health and Safety and all other relevant material to function as an informed practitioner within a prison setting. Please note, HMP Bristol operate a 24/7 service. Shift pattern: 3 x 12.5-hour shifts (7:00am-7:30pm) per week for 3 weeks and 4 x 12.5 hour shifts (7:00am-7:30pm) on the 4th week. Where possible, one shift will be protected for mandatory training, supervision, and administration on-site. 2 weekends in every 6-week roster including both Saturday and Sunday. 1 set of 3-night shifts every 12-week roster including 2 per annum on weekends (7:00pm-7:30am) IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ: All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team. You will need to provide: Proof of right to work documentation Proof of ID, needs to include 1 photographic ID Proof of address documentation Non-UK passport holders will need to have correct documentation (right to work in the UK) and a Home office Share code. Address History: 5 years address history will be needed. Applicants that are not UK Passport holders who provide less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide a Police Certificate which must be in English from where they resided previously. Person specification Education/Qualifications Essential criteria Professional Qualification - NMC or HCPC Post Graduate Qualification or equivalent experience. Experience Essential criteria Minimum of two years' experience at Band 5 Working knowledge or clear interest in prison/offender healthcare Experience of multi-professional collaboration including working in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations. Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care. Skills/Abilities/Knowledge Essential criteria Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, presenting ideas with clarity in a persuasive and influential style.
