Role Summary The Electrical Control Panel Specialist is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting industrial electrical control panels and related automation systems. This role ensures that all control panels meet applicable electrical codes, safety standards, design specifications, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with panel building, strong knowledge of industrial controls, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Responsibilities Read and interpret 2D electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) to determine wiring layouts and component placement. Wire, assemble and install electrical components, including but not limited to: PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) Motor Starters and Drives (VFDs) PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) 12V, 24V and 48V Batteries & Battery banks Relays, Terminal Blocks, and Circuit Breakers Transformers and Power Supplies Perform panel layout and mechanical assembly duties, which include drilling, tapping, and mounting components, cable ducts, within the control enclosure. Cut, strip, bend, and terminate wires and cables using appropriate tools and techniques to ensure high‑quality and reliable connections. Troubleshoot and debug wiring issues and functionality problems to ensure panels and machines operate as specified before shipment or installation. Perform functional testing and optimisation using electrical testing instrumentation (e.g., DVM, Megger, network testing devices, thermal imaging devices). Conduct continuity checks and basic testing on completed panels and systems, using the appropriate testing equipment. Maintain a clean and organised work area and adhere to all safety policies and procedures. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to improve assembly processes. Essential Qualifications Proven experience (e.g., 2+ years) as an Electrical Wireman, Panel Builder, or similar role. Demonstrable ability to read and interpret detailed 2D electrical schematics and technical drawings. Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in electrical wiring and panel building. Solid understanding of electrical safety procedures and quality standards. 3rd Level electrical certificate or equivalent; vocational training or an apprenticeship is an advantage. Good communication and teamwork skills. Desirable Qualifications Experience with UL / CE panel building standards. Familiarity with various wiring methods and termination techniques (e.g., solderless crimp connections). Experience with field wiring and installation/commissioning of control systems. Electrical knowledge as well as mechanical would be advantageous. Experience in electrical switchgear manufacture or similar. Experience in on‑field service work / onsite installations. Familiar with risk assessments and method statements. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry tools and materials up to 25 kg. Clean & healthy driving licence for potential offsite work. Comfortable with bending, kneeling, standing, and working for extended periods.
