ABC Teachers is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to work in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Redditch on a full-time basis.

Hours:- 8.30am-3.30pm Monday-Friday

About the role:

Support the teaching and learning of secondary-aged students in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) setting. The role involves working with students who experience a range of complex social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. The Teaching Assistant will provide tailored academic and emotional support to help pupils re-engage with education, overcome barriers to learning, and make positive progress.
Support pupils in accessing learning activities under the guidance of the teacher or SENCo.
Assist in the implementation of individual education, behaviour and support plans.
Promote a nurturing, structured, and consistent environment that supports pupils' emotional well-being and behaviour regulation.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.
Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to deliver targeted academic and social-emotional interventions.
Support the development of students' self-regulation, social skills, and resilience.
Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and incidents, reporting concerns as appropriate.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for each pupil.
Contribute to a safe and positive learning environment in line with safeguarding and behaviour management policies.
Participate in staff training and reflective practice to continuously improve professional skills.
About the school:

A Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) offering a supportive and flexible educational setting for students who face challenges that make mainstream schooling difficult. The school works closely with schools, families, and pupils to provide a range of options aimed at promoting rapid progress, re-engagement, and long-term positive change.
The school caters to students with complex needs, including behavioural difficulties, mental health issues, and special educational needs (SEND) and their goal is to provide an individualised, nurturing environment that helps each student overcome personal barriers and re-engage with their education.
With smaller class sizes and tailored support, the school creates a setting where students can rebuild their confidence, develop essential skills, and, where appropriate, prepare for reintegration into mainstream school or transition to the next stage of their education.
Their approach centres on understanding each student’s unique circumstances, fostering self-belief, and supporting meaningful, lasting change from within.
About you:

To be considered for the Teaching Assistant position, you will:

Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students

Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
ABC Teachers is committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously.
