Seniority level Internship Main Purpose of the Job The Community Youth Project is an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation that provides youth work services to communities within South Somerset. The organisation is run by a voluntary group of trustees and a management group, and is supported by a paid part‑time Project Manager. The Youth Worker will be line‑managed by the Project Manager. Key Responsibilities 1. Lead the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of youth sessions at the Chard Young People’s Centre (open Thursday evenings). 2. Promote and increase attendance at Chard youth provision through social media and other methods. 3. Deliver outreach within the community as and when required. 4. Build transformational, effective professional relationships with young people aged 8‑17 years. 5. Support the development and involvement of young helpers in centre‑based delivery. 6. Lead the planning, coordination, delivery, documentation and evaluation of programme delivery. 7. Work as lead youth worker during face‑to‑face sessions, ensuring and providing leadership for effective team working. 8. Purchase resources and tuck for face‑to‑face sessions. 9. Ensure all sessional paperwork is completed and regularly uploaded onto the CYP One drive. 10. Write a quarterly report for the Chard Youth Service Committee. 11. Support the engagement of young people in community events as and when required. 12. Co‑lead the development and delivery of a range of community events that support young people’s engagement in their community. 13. Provide support for the day‑to‑day management of the Chard Youth Centre, relaying building maintenance matters to the building committee. 14. Initiate and work with partner agencies and local communities as required to maximise opportunities available for young people. 15. Enable young people to be actively involved in decision making. 16. Ensure all youth work is conducted in accordance with policies and procedures that meet statutory requirements and best practice guidance, including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Data Protection. 17. Ensure that all risk assessments and safety inspections are carried out and appropriate records kept for all activities relating to young people. 18. Implement safer working practice. 19. Record the output and outcomes of work and programmes for the purposes of monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that monitoring and evaluation of youth work takes place. 20. Prepare quarterly reports and attend Town or Parish Council and other community panel meetings when required. 21. Attend monthly supervision and CYP Team meetings. 22. Attend induction and mandatory training within the first two months: induction with the project manager, safeguarding (online), food safety and hygiene (online) and qualified first aid (in person). 23. Perform any other duties required and delegated, commensurate with the responsibilities of this post. These duties may evolve as the project develops. Qualifications and Conditions Post is subject to satisfactory medical clearance and requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Requires a six‑month probationary period. Qualified as Youth Work NVQ Level 3 receives £15.50 per hour; unqualified and experienced receives £14.00 per hour. Required to deliver regular evening sessions; unsociable hours, evenings and occasional weekends are part of the role. Annual leave entitlement is 5.6 weeks (pro‑rata). An appropriate travel allowance is paid for legitimate travel other than home to work. Full terms and conditions are available from the Community Youth Project.
