Band 4 Assistant Psychologists – Older People’s Services We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary Memory Clinic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate looking to develop clinical experience within dementia care, cognitive assessment, and older adult mental health. About the Role The post-holder will work under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist to support the assessment, diagnosis, and management of people experiencing memory difficulties, including those with suspected dementia. You will contribute to high‑quality, person‑centred care for patients and their families. About You A degree in Psychology (BPS‑accredited) is essential. Experience working with older adults, individuals with cognitive impairment, or in a mental health setting is desirable. Strong communication, empathy, and organisational skills. Ability to work flexibly within an MDT and manage sensitive information confidently. What We Offer Regular clinical supervision from a qualified psychologist. Key Responsibilities Assist in administering, scoring, and interpreting cognitive and neuropsychological assessments. Gather collateral histories and behavioural information from patients, carers, and relevant professionals. Support clinicians in diagnostic clinics and multidisciplinary case discussions. Provide evidence‑based psychological interventions and psycho‑education under supervision. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with Trust policies. Contribute to audit, service evaluation, and quality‑improvement initiatives. Help develop resources for patients and carers, including well‑being and post‑diagnostic support materials. Participate in regular supervision, training, and team meetings. Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge – Essential Degree level qualification in Psychology. A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion. Basic IT skills. Qualifications and Knowledge – Desirable Evidence of current CPD or equivalent knowledge/learning. Additional qualifications or course attendance in a related field. Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. NSF, Social Inclusion. Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area. Experience – Essential Appropriate knowledge and experience of working or placements within identified clinical area. Experience – Desirable Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care. Evidence/knowledge of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation. Skills and Competencies – Essential Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills. Evidence of good time management skills. Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity.
