Overview At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC), we provide joined‑up mental health, physical health and learning disability services to people of all ages across Gloucestershire. We run community hospitals and provide care and support in people's own homes and in a range of other locations across the county. We are on a mission to enable people to live the best life they can and we have a vision to work together to provide outstanding care. We put people at the heart of our services, focusing on personalised care by asking "what matters to you". We're passionate about making sure everyone can contribute to achieving our mission and we continually support healthy, happy, high‑quality teams throughout the Trust. Our application process aims to understand each candidate's knowledge, skills and experience. Candidates who rely on AI to generate their answers may lack specificity and fail to address key criteria outlined in the job description. Personalising your application helps us see why you are applying for this role with GHC. Our Special Care/Paediatric Dental Service is looking for skilled and dedicated dental officers to join its friendly and innovative team in Gloucestershire. The award‑winning service prides itself on providing outstanding specialised clinical care for children, young people and adults with additional needs, including treatment under inhalation and IV sedation, as well as general anaesthesia – providing ideal opportunities for training and career development. We seek enthusiastic, flexible professionals with excellent communication skills to join us on a full‑ or part‑time basis, to provide routine clinical care for those who require special dental care. If you are seeking a rewarding role that offers variety and supports further career development, this could be the ideal opportunity for you. >Responsibilities The post holder will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical care to adult and paediatric patients who meet the criteria for special care dentistry that cannot be met in the General Dental Service. This will include the use of modalities such as inhalation sedation, general anaesthetic, local anaesthetic, behaviour modification, and treatment in different locations such as domiciliary and hospital settings. Other key responsibilities include: Provide a full range of high‑quality oral health care for children and adults with special needs, including care in clinics, hospitals and domiciliary settings. Identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in providing appropriate first‑line management, using suitable techniques, equipment and drugs. Use appropriate local anaesthesia and patient‑management approaches to control pain and anxiety during dental treatment, which may include sedation. Deliver treatment of periodontal conditions, routine exodontia and/or simple surgical procedures, and appropriate restorative techniques. Undertake investigations during patient examinations to determine the need for specialist advice and completion of onward referrals as appropriate. Complete NHS administrative duties, including appropriate forms. Participate in epidemiological surveys as required by the service. Engage in oral health promotion activities as required. The post holder must be able to travel and work at different sites to meet the needs of the service. We consider part‑time and flexible working, ideally a minimum of three days per week. Benefits Free car parking at many of our sites. 27 days leave plus bank holidays, increasing up to 33 days with long service. A broad range of training and development opportunities, including apprenticeships up to Level 7 qualification. A multi‑professional preceptorship programme for all newly qualified staff, nurses, nursing associates, internationally educated practitioners, allied health professionals and return‑to‑practice practitioners. Generous NHS pension and enhanced pay for unsocial hours. Flexible, family‑friendly and agile working opportunities. Recognition and long‑service awards. Fast‑track physiotherapy. Well‑being line. Access to discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, including Cycle to Work, Car scheme and discounts on travel, leisure and retailers. Applicants are advised to apply early, as we reserve the right to close the vacancy prior to the advertised date if a large number of applications are received.
