Job Summary The post-holder is a Nursing Associate and provides fundamental nurse‑led care to the community. The Nursing Associate works alongside a team within general practice and is an integral part of the general practice team. The principal task is to support registered nurses to enable them to focus on more complex clinical care of patients. This job description and person specification is based on the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Standards of proficiency for nursing associates and RCN guidance on the role and scope of practice of the Nursing Associate. About Us Our practice is a 10 partner organisation providing general medical services to a patient list of approximately 15,600 patients in Torbay. It was formed in 1986 and is based over 2 sites, Dewerstone at Hampton Avenue and Chatto at Chatto Road. The organisation offers a full range of services, all detailed on our website. It was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November 2022 and was assessed as GOOD. Salary £14.00‑£15.50 per hour, depending on experience. Contract Permanent Working Pattern Full‑time, Part‑time Job Location Hampton Avenue, St. Marychurch, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 3LA Job Description Deliver high quality, compassionate care while undertaking specific clinical and care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse or other registered care professional, focusing on promoting good health and independence. Provide high‑quality holistic and person‑centred care to individuals. Provide routine care to patients as required in accordance with clinical evidence, NICE and the NSF. Provide wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required. Work as part of the MDT to provide and monitor care, under direct or indirect supervision and ensure delivery of nursing associate duties. Improve the safety and quality of care at every opportunity. Contribute to the delivery of integrated care. Work with a supervisor to develop own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace. Provide support and supervision to training nursing associates, healthcare assistants, apprentices and those on learning assignments/placements as required. Support registered nurses to enable them to focus on more complex clinical care. Develop relationships across the MDT to support the integration of the role across health and social care. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient health records, ensuring that clinical data is appropriately recorded with SNOMED codes. Perform and record clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse, including appropriate coding. After additional training, provide flu vaccinations, ECGs, venepuncture and other relevant clinical tasks as required. Promote health and wellbeing to all patients, for example undertaking the NHS health check. Provide support during minor operations as required. Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self‑management where appropriate, including signposting to personalised care colleagues and local community services. Communicate proactively and effectively with all MDT colleagues, attending and contributing to meetings as required. Adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children. Process pathology results as required. Enhance own performance through continuous professional development. Contribute to and embrace clinical governance. Attend a formal appraisal with your manager at least every 12 months. Contribute towards public health and screening programmes, including immunisations and vaccinations. Support and deliver health promotion and wellbeing programmes. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area. Be an integral part of the general practice team across the PCN. Recognise boundaries of practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred. Demonstrate initiative and creativity in finding solutions to problems. Support the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements on behalf of the PCN. Support in the management of patient complaints when requested. Undertake all mandatory training and induction programme. Perform any other tasks as required by workload and staffing levels. Person Specification Essential Clinical Knowledge and Skills Ability to work within own scope of practice and recognise when to refer to clinical colleagues. Ability to record accurate clinical notes. Effective communication with the public, health and care providers. Develop effective relationships with patients, families, carers and colleagues. Desirable Clinical Knowledge and Skills Good clinical system IT knowledge. Broad knowledge of clinical governance. Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information. Chaperone experience. Reflective practice and clinical supervision engagement. Promotion of health and wellbeing (Making Every Contact Count). Support and supervise nursing associate students and other learners. Qualifications Essential Registered nursing associate on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register. Completed the two‑year Foundation Degree delivered by an NMC‑approved provider. Desirable Experience of working in a primary care environment. Experience of quality initiatives and benchmarking. Experience Essential Ability to work as a team player under appropriate supervision. Desirable Insight into evaluating own strengths and development needs.
