Aberdeen City Council is currently in discussions with Trade Unions regarding a proposal to move from a standard 37-hour full-time working week to a standard 35-hour full-time working week.
Weekly rota shift pattern:
Week 1: Monday-Thursday 6am - 2pm, Friday 6am-13:30pm
Week 2: Monday-Thursday 14:00pm - 22:00pm, Friday 11:30am-19:00pm
Roles that require PVG Membership:
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full-time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above.
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary payment.
Job Purpose:The post holder will be responsible for inspection, maintaining and repairs on vehicles, plant and equipment within Aberdeen City Council Fleet workshops and depots. They must have the ability to work on their own initiative and communicate effectively with the management team and customers.
RequirementsThe post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
- City and Guilds Heavy vehicle service and maintenance (9302) or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Preferably hold a Category C (HGV) Licence and relevant CPC or be obtained
The post holder will be expected to:
- Join the out of hours on-call breakdown rota.
- Work outside in all weathers.
- Occasionally work out with contractual/normal working hours.
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers.
