The Role & Responsibilities The Legal Counsel – Legal Strategy supports Shawbrook’s central legal function, working closely with the Head of Legal Strategy. The role involves shaping, coordinating and executing strategic legal matters such as M&A, finance and treasury initiatives, corporate advisory, HR, and regulatory change projects. Your work enables the Legal Services team to focus on BAU activity. Key Responsibilities Lead strategic legal projects with guidance from the Head of Legal. Act as trusted adviser to internal stakeholders and collaborate across business functions. Identify and manage legal risks across central corporate matters including M&A, corporate advisory, finance and treasury, HR, and regulatory change. Support efficient delivery of strategic legal work, reduce external counsel reliance, and manage external legal advisers for cost effectiveness. Translate external advice into clear, actionable guidance; contribute to risk management frameworks, controls and policies. Assist the Company Secretariat with governance advice for strategic projects. Manage the external legal panel for strategic matters, ensuring quality, efficiency and commercial value. Facilitate training and knowledge‑sharing to enhance legal awareness and risk management across the organisation. The Person Qualified lawyer with experience in financial institutions, M&A, corporate or strategic advisory. Experienced working in legal teams and with senior stakeholders. Strong commercial acumen, able to apply legal advice in a practical business context. Proven track record supporting major transactions and regulatory change programmes.
