Governance researcher for environmental charity creating community spaces East London Waterworks Park, a volunteer‑led charity, is creating a new biodiverse community‑owned park at the former Thames Water Depot. We are seeking a Governance researcher to lead projects that explore how diverse professionals collaborate to shape community infrastructure. You will conduct research, develop governance structures, and engage stakeholders to ensure the park reflects the community’s needs and is sustainably managed. What are we looking for? Legal & Regulatory Expertise In‑depth knowledge of UK charity law, regulations, and best practices in charity governance. Experience reviewing and drafting charity policies (e.g., safeguarding, data protection, conflict of interest). Ability to advise on and implement governance structures that comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Data Protection & Privacy Strong understanding of GDPR and other relevant data protection legislation. Experience conducting data protection impact assessments and implementing data protection measures. Ability to advise on the secure and ethical use of data within the organisation. Risk Management Experience conducting and reviewing risk assessments. Ability to identify, analyse, and mitigate potential legal, financial, and reputational risks. Understanding of risk management frameworks and methodologies. Research & Analysis Proven ability to conduct in‑depth legal and policy research on relevant topics (e.g., charity law, environmental law, data protection). Experience analysing complex legal and regulatory frameworks. Ability to synthesize research findings and present them concisely. Governance & Best Practices Experience researching and analysing best practices in charity governance, including board governance, risk management, and financial management. Ability to identify innovative and effective governance models for environmental charities. Communication & Collaboration Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex legal and regulatory information to diverse audiences. Ability to present research findings and recommendations clearly, concisely, and engagingly. Stakeholder Engagement Experience engaging with stakeholders to gather input and build consensus on governance issues. Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders. What will you be doing? As a Governance researcher, you will participate in the Governance Circle, a fortnightly working group that develops an organisational structure and culture merging grassroots enthusiasm with professional rigor. You will lead on projects exploring how architects, ecologists, community researchers, political campaigners, fundraisers, and communications professionals co‑create community infrastructure in green and blue spaces. You will be involved in remote tasks outside of meetings and may present findings at group sessions. We value commitment to community engagement and a passion for sustainable public spaces. The role is full‑time and located in East London, with the possibility of remote work for certain tasks. #J-18808-Ljbffr
