City Of London, United Kingdom The Law Debenture Group Full time

About Law Debenture Law Debenture is an Investment Trust supported by a wholly owned professional services business. LawDeb is an unusual and exciting proposition; on a day‑to‑day basis we are nimble, ambitious and small enough to know everyone by name, whilst also benefiting from the profile and credibility of a listed business. This is thanks to our 135‑year‑old FTSE250 investment trust and our fast‑growing independent professional services business of over 300 colleagues across 6 business lines. At LawDeb, doing work that has a positive impact is important to us. We need the very best people to be the custodians of our business for the next stage of our proud history and growth. We’re ambitious to innovate, collaborate and push forward in providing peace of mind and excellence for our clients and each other. We’re on a journey to shape a culture we’re all proud to be part of – one where everyone feels trusted, supported and empowered to own their success. Working at LawDeb, you will have access to our enviable network of clients and innovative projects, as well as brilliant colleagues to learn from and collaborate with. Role Overview The Automation QA Engineer will focus primarily on test automation, while also being prepared to perform manual testing where required. This role is ideal for a tester who brings strong automation skills (framework enhancement, maintenance, and test execution), but also understands the value of manual testing in delivering high quality software. The role also requires someone who is passionate about ensuring quality solutions for the business and seeing end users benefit from reliable, well‑tested software. You would be a keen learner and show an interest in the advancements in test automation, quality assurance methodologies, and testing technologies. The QA Engineer will not act as a Software Developer in Test (SDET), but as a QA professional with automation at the core of their toolkit, working across multiple projects and collaborating closely with Developers, Product Managers, QAs, and Stakeholders. Job Role & Responsibilities Automation Develop, maintain, and enhance automation frameworks using Playwright (TypeScript & C#). Write, maintain, and extend automation scripts to cover regression, integration, and end‑to‑end scenarios. Ensure automation tests are integrated into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps) for continuous testing. Troubleshoot, optimise, and improve the reliability of automated test suites. Provide automation coverage across multiple projects. Manual Testing Design, write, and execute manual test cases when automation is not applicable (e.g. exploratory testing, UI validation, one‑off business scenarios). Perform regression and functional testing manually where automation is not feasible. Collaborate with business users to validate requirements and acceptance criteria. General Duties Contribute to test strategies, plans, and estimates. Ensure defect logging, tracking, and re‑testing. Maintain test traceability and documentation. Report on quality metrics, risks, and issues. Participate in Agile ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban). Build rapport and collaborate effectively with colleagues across teams. Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience Experience automating API endpoint tests based on Swagger specifications, using Playwright in C#. Strong experience in UI test automation with Playwright in TypeScript. Experience in building, maintaining, and improving automation frameworks. Experience working with Visual Studio and Azure DevOps pipelines. Ability to switch between automation and manual testing depending on project needs. Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical detail clearly. Proven experience balancing multiple projects simultaneously. Cross-browser testing of web applications. Version control with Git. Desirable Skills API testing and integration testing experience. Understanding of different testing types (unit, functional, regression, acceptance, etc). SQL for database queries and data validation. Familiarity with BDD tools (Specflow, Cucumber). Experience with test reporting and metrics. Experience with code repositories. Familiarity with load/performance testing. Exposure to Cloud environments (Azure, AWS). Agile environment experience (Scrum/Kanban). Qualifications ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing (or equivalent). Relevant IT degree or equivalent practical experience. Your Reward Competitive salary with performance bonus scheme. Generous pension contribution. Full healthcare cover. Health cash plan. Life assurance. Buy/sell annual leave scheme.
