Job Summary This post supports and develops the OMFS service at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. It is a renewable contract up to 12 months, with a pathway to a substantive consultant role. The consultant will mainly work in elective settings, deliver outpatient and theatre care, and contribute to teaching, audit and research programmes. Key Responsibilities Provide continuous care for patients in charge and ensure proper functioning of the OMFS department. Conduct administrative duties related to patient care, clinic operation and department management. Assume responsibility for junior medical staff management, including rota approval and locum arrangements. Participate fully in district medical audit arrangements. Support professional development of trainees and contribute to training of undergraduates and junior doctors. Maintain all aspects of professional development for successful appraisal and revalidation. About the Department Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital and community services in Hackney and surrounding areas. The Trust operates acute services from a single site – Homerton University Hospital (opened 1986) – rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission. The hospital has nearly 500 beds, intensive care, maternity, paediatric, neonatal wards and multiple operating theatres. Specialty Subspecialist training in OMFS in an area suitable for the department’s future development. Broad‑based general professional training in general medicine. Training & Teaching Experience teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff. Desirable: Training the Trainers Course or equivalent; Teaching and Assessment in Practice Course or equivalent. Management & Audit Understanding clinical governance principles and their implications. Effective multidisciplinary team working. Experience in audit. Desirable: Evidence of service audit, design or change management. Research & Publications Knowledge of research methodology. Ongoing interest and achievement in research. Desirable: Training in research methodology; publications in peer‑review journals; presentations to learned societies. Personal Skills Excellent communication – clear, intelligent written and spoken English. Other Requirements Disclosure and Barring Service Check (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act Exceptions Order 1975). Certificate of Sponsorship available for skilled worker applicants.
