Whitgift is a leading independent day and boarding school for boys, with approximately 1500 pupils including over 100 boarding pupils and flexi boarding pupils. It is set in an attractive 48‑acre parkland site in South Croydon enjoying excellent links to London, Surrey and the south coast. During the summer holidays, Whitgift runs its own summer school for international students, utilising all its fantastic facilities and modern boarding house. Whitgift Summer School offers innovative English language and academic courses with activities that appeal to girls and boys aged 11‑17 from all over the world. Role: Welfare Manager – 2025 Summer School The Welfare Manager will have overall responsibility for residential pastoral care and well‑being of all summer school students. They will manage a team of house parents, coordinate with nurses to meet medical requirements, and implement Whitgift’s safeguarding policy to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all students. The position is part of the Summer School Leadership Team. Qualifications & Experience Passionate about student welfare and committed to providing the best pastoral care. Outstanding time‑management and organisational skills with proven management and leadership experience in a summer school, residential or boarding house context. Ability to motivate, lead, supervise and engage staff and young learners. Degree and previous experience of working with children in a professional setting. Additional vocational training in childcare, education or counselling is welcomed. Proficiency in spoken and written English. This is a residential role. Even when off duty, the Welfare Manager must be willing to assist in case of any emergency that may arise, especially throughout the night.
