To participate in the provision of the in‑house FM services to a specified area within the Trust, which may include in‑patient areas and retail outlets: The FM services comprises of the cleaning, catering, portering, bed making and laundering services, however some of these services are unit specific. Therefore sections of this job description may not be relevant to all staff and will be identified where appropriate but are not exhaustive. You must be aware of the important part you play in maintaining the environment to an excellent standard. You must also be aware that your work will involve working alongside patients and occasionally interacting with them as you carry out your duties outlined below. Domestic Service (Rapid Response) Ensure the ward(s)/area is cleaned in accordance with the Work Schedule. Vacuum, sweep, scrub and mop floors; high‑ and low‑dusting; wipe, polish vertical and horizontal surfaces, mirrors and chairs. Clean toilets, sinks, baths and showers; clean kitchen appliances (cookers, ovens, fridges, microwaves). Defrost fridges regularly. Restock consumables such as toilet tissue, hand towels, soap; descale taps; replace bin liners. Review the work schedule with supervisor to ensure it is manageable and appropriate. Report problems such as damaged floor coverings or surfaces that would affect cleaning. Use only colour‑coded mops, cloths and buckets assigned to each area; store or dispose of them properly at shift end. Use cleaning materials economically; report any deterioration of products or delivery of unsuitable substitutes. Use only chemicals provided by the Trust and follow training on their use. Operate machinery (vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, ovens) safely; report faults; keep equipment clean and replace vacuum bags regularly. Securely store all equipment and cleaning materials; report any security threat or unlocked storeroom. Dispose of general, domestic and clinical waste correctly; flag any segregation or storage issues to supervisor. Food Services Assist with the regeneration of cook‑chill meals: take and record temperatures before placing food in the oven; commence cook cycle. Prepare soup, gravy and custard for the patient meal service. Ensure oven gloves and cloths are used and laundered regularly. Serve and clear away meals on the ward/area you are working in (where applicable). Clean crockery and cutlery used for patient meals. Laundry Service Wash, dry and finish patients’ clothing, duvet covers, duvets and curtains following correct procedures. Re‑process or iron garments that have not reached required standard before returning to owner. Label personal items and keep dirty and soiled items separate from clean items. Place fully laundered items in agreed area; maintain a clean and tidy laundry space. Complete the cleaning checklist to evidence all tasks have been met to satisfactory standard. Work with colleagues to keep washing machines and tumble driers clean; report faulty machinery to supervisor. Portering Deliver pharmacy boxes and medical records; collect and dispose of dirty linen, waste and other items. Provide general stores and goods received, meal trolleys and assist with plant watering and public area tidying. Sort, deliver and collect mail (where applicable); obtain signatures for deliveries. Assist with ad‑hoc tasks such as transporting patients (accompanied by nursing staff), medical gases, specimens, furniture removal, meeting‑room setup. Maintain medical gas supplies and monitor levels in in‑patient wards. Decant and deliver liquid nitrogen and report levels for replenishment. Operate the electro‑hydraulic waste compactor safely. Assist with vehicle loading/unloading and external waste bin maintenance. Support fire brigade during calls; provide assistance and guide them to fire panel and key box. Conduct gritting and snow clearance during severe weather. Additional Responsibilities Support community site buildings using Trust vehicle for ad‑hoc work including collections and deliveries. Assist in unloading and loading of vehicles as required. Keep external waste areas and storage equipment clean and tidy. Requirements & Conditions Right to work in the UK; no sponsorship for this role. Must incur and pay for initial DBS check; cost will be deducted from first salary. Full COVID‑19 vaccination is required for those directly employed or deployed to a CQC‑registered care home. Demonstrated competence in using colour‑coded cleaning equipment and chemicals. Ability to store and secure equipment and materials safely. Capable of working safely with machinery, waste, and medical supplies.
