This is an exciting opportunity to gain comprehensive experience and training in Hands & Wrist Surgery at University College London Hospital. The candidate must be post MRCS and have obtained full registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. Ideally, they should have FRCS (Tr&Orth) and should have achieved or be eligible for CCT. Main duties of the job UCH Fellowships are clinically based specialist posts intended to give candidates excellent hands‑on experience and a wide exposure to routine and complex cases in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. The Hand and Wrist service at UCLH is delivered by four Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. The Hand Fellow would work with colleagues to deliver a comprehensive subspecialty/tertiary hand service in the trauma and elective settings. Trauma surgery is delivered through dedicated hand trauma lists, with specialist hand and wrist elective surgery provided at our elective orthopaedic hub on Grafton Way. We work closely with our hand therapy colleagues, hand ESP and hand dressings team. In addition, there are ample academic, medical education and leadership opportunities which can be tailored to the needs of the Fellow. BSSH Hand Diploma candidates are supported in the unit. Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications Full GMC Registration. NB: Non‑UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment. Clinical Knowledge commensurate with trauma and orthopaedic surgery registrar training Higher Academic Degree FRCS (Tr&Orth) Achieved or eligible for CTT Experience Excellence clinical skills Capacity to use and develop a wide range of theoretical approaches. Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication. Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives. Interest and experience in hand and wrist surgery Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical / organisational context. Skills and Abilities All aspects of orthopaedic surgery General basic trauma operative skills Communication Ability to act as a consistent reference point in a team and to take a leadership role where needed. Ability to organise and prioritize work load, to delegate responsibilities as appropriate and to supervise staff. Lecturing experience with a range of disciplines. Audit Management & IT The ability to undertake and manage clinical audits including supervision of junior staff. Use of databases and hospital EPR/CDR/PACS systems to a competent level. Personal Qualities Ability, enthusiasm and commitment to teach in a clinical setting. Ability to motivate, inspire and support multi‑professional team and be able to work effectively and sensitively within such teams. Ability to engage/implement NHS strategy, e.g. service redesign to achieve the 18 week target.
