Job Description The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) manages important environmental monitoring systems and data sets. You will join a multi‑disciplinary team supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins our work. The Technical Advisor helps manage these systems and data and provides support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will be expected to support other systems and data as needed. Responsibilities Set up and manage users Support users and resolve issues, especially when we move to our new My Environment application Update, improve and maintain datasets Respond to internal and external data requests Support our system improvement and upgrade projects If you have a passion for working with data/systems, a desire to improve the way we work and are keen to develop and learn new skills, this could be the role for you. Experience / Skills Required Experience of working with large complex datasets Someone who is willing to develop and learn new technical skills and apply these across our monitoring data and systems A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, comfortable working in a dispersed team environment Someone who is proactive and enjoys solving problems Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service Other Desirable Experience / Skills Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems Experience of using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R A working knowledge of water quality monitoring Contact and Additional Information Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and have a presence there. We offer hybrid home/office working but some travel is expected for meetings. We expect to hold interviews via MS Teams towards the end of December / beginning of January. Competence 2: Takes Decisions and Solves Problems Using the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action and Result) can help when formulating your answers. Description: Finds and delivers optimal solutions by effectively analysing all the information, probing to develop alternatives and taking sound and timely decisions. Question – Please give an example of a time when you have solved a problem requiring perseverance and an eye for detail. Competence 3: Focuses on Customers and Partners Using the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action and Result) can help when formulating your answers. Description: Consults and collaborates with Customers and Partners effectively through awareness raising, education and combined projects, ensuring buy‑in to initiatives and the beneficial promotion of the Environment Agency’s duties and policies.
