Saint Francis Hospice is looking for a full‑time Clinical Fellow with a special interest in palliative medicine for a 6‑month fixed‑term contract from 4 February 2026 to 4 August 2026. The post arises because of a recruitment gap and offers an opportunity to gain hospice experience for those aiming for a career in palliative medicine, general practice or elderly care medicine. Applicants must have completed Foundation Year 1 and 2 (or equivalent) and have experience in general medicine. Some exposure to palliative care is desirable. Responsibilities Work predominantly in the hospice ward, with opportunities for community visits. Provide daily medical care including symptom review, intravenous line placement, and paracentesis. Clerking admissions, coordinating discharges and maintaining accurate medical records. Keep families and carers informed, liaise with multidisciplinary team and provide written communication on deaths and discharges. Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and educational programmes. Attend non‑resident on‑call for weekend daytime ward rounds, admissions, and low‑intensity night cover; must be within 1 hour during on‑call. Qualifications Full GMC registration. MBBS or equivalent. Evidence of proficiency in core clinical skills, venepuncture, cannulation, NIV. Excellent communication skills and respectful team attitude. Demonstrable interest in palliative medicine (essential); commitment to a career in palliative medicine, GP or elderly care medicine (desirable). Person Specification Full GMC registration, MBBS or equivalent. Successful completion of Foundation Years 1 and 2 and clinical experience in general medicine at level of FY2/FY3/ST1 (essential). Experience in palliative care (desirable). Evidence of audit and quality improvement activity (essential). Able to work non‑resident on‑call and live within reasonable distance of the hospice (essential). Contract and Salary Fixed‑term, full‑time, 40‑hour standard working week. Salary £52,656 plus on call allowances, pro‑rata to duration of contract. Annual leave as per NHS. Study leave supported financially at GP trainee level.
